Tributes have been paid this week to former councillor and four times Mayor of Tenby, Mr. Denzil Griffiths, who passed away on Tuesday. A native of the town and one of its great characters, 72-year-old Mr. Griffiths first entered local government in 1968 when he was elected as a member of Tenby Borough Council. Following reorganisation, he became a member of Tenby Town Council in 1974 and went on to serve as Mayor in 1975 and three consecutive years in 1985, 1986 and 1987. He also served on South Pembrokeshire District Council. Current Mayor of the town, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, said this week: "While Denzil was a great personal friend, I never had the good fortune to serve with him on council. However, I will always be aware of the great love he had for this town and the legacy he leaves as a former Mayor and town and district councillor. "He was a tremendously charismatic character who could make friends with anyone, no matter their rank or station in life. He used this gift as a tireless ambassador for the town, championing Tenby wherever he went. You could travel anywhere in the world and meet someone who knew of Denzil and Tenby. "We all owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude and he will be sorely missed." See also obituary page.
