At Milford Haven Town Hall last week, the coroner for Pembrokeshire, Mr. Michael Howells, concluded an inquest into the death of Mrs. Shirley Grundy, of 1 Chapel Lane, Llanteg. The coroner's officer, Mr. Jeremy Davies, advised the court that the deceased, who was aged 66, was born in Cumbria and had graduated as a medical student and later became an industrial chemist. In later life, she lectured in chemistry and mathematics for some 25 years, before retiring to Pembrokeshire. Late last February, she suffered a chest infection and her GP had her admitted to hospital at Haverfordwest where her condition was positively diagnosed as due to an exposure to asbestos during her working life - a condition which had now been fully accepted by her former employers. Mrs. Grundy passed away on March 7 and, giving a narrative verdict, the coroner determined that she had died from an industrial disease.
