Further concerns have been raised about Tenby’s ‘Dead House Steps’ due to a street lighting breakdown.

Members of Tenby Town Council recently called for an immediate inspection and plan of works for the walkway which leads down to Tenby’s harbour area to make them safer, particularly as the steps are a vital route for members of the RNLI to gain access to the Inshore Lifeboat launch station.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, Clr. Mrs Caroline Thomas pointed out that two of the street lights by the walkway were now not working.

Her colleague, Clr. Paul Rapi, also pointed to street lights not working along the Paragon area.

“It was nine o’clock at night, pitch black, and I fell down the steps there, so that’s another danger that needs looking at,” he said.

The town clerk, Andrew Davies, recently told members that Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of highways and construction, Darren Thomas, was working on the matter at the ‘Dead House Steps’, but that there were several departments involved.

“Mr. Thomas is still trying to resolve whose responsible for the steps, as they seem to come under the ownership of the harbour estate, but is of the opinion that they need to get on with repairing them, and worry about funding and whose ownership they are under afterwards,” explained Mr. Davies.
