Narberth extended their winning run to seven on Saturday, with a narrow win against Bedwas, which leaves the Otters in that all-important seventh place and just a point behind Bedwas in National League division one.
In the first half, Narberth had the wind behind them, which gave them a slight advantage, with Simon Daniel kicking his first penalty of the day to give the Otters an early lead.
In a very tight first half, both teams seemed to cancel each other out, with no real threat on the try line, which left it up to the kickers.
Simon Daniel kicked another penalty near the half-hour mark to increase the lead to six, before Bedwas centre Andrew James slotted an excellent penalty for the visitors to narrow the deficit at half-time.
In the first minute of the second half, Bedwas levelled the scores with a long range penalty, aided by the wind advantage they now had.
Twelve minutes into the half, Narberth hit Bedwas with a couple of tries that caught the visitors napping.
The first came from a tap penalty by scrum-half Chris Macdonald, who was unfortunately injured in the move, and Daniel added the extras.
Macdonald was then replaced by Adrian Killa and Narberth had the momentum.
Counter-attacking at every opportunity, the break again came when fullback Nick Jones ran up the right flank and released in-form winger Daniel Gravell, who chipped ahead and both he and Nick Jones were on the chase. It was Jones who won the race to the ball before the Bedwas covering defence.
Fly-half Daniel missed his first kick of the day from the resulting conversion, but made up for it soon after with another penalty to give Narberth a 15-point cushion and good for it.
But Bedwas then sprung into action and finally broke the Otters' defence when fullback Paul Phillips ended a wonderful run by cutting through and planting the ball down near the posts.
Andrew James converted, before Daniel added another penalty for the Otters to extend their lead.
Then up popped Bedwas hooker Lee Pearce, who touched down from a drive on the Narberth defence after a tap penalty.
The conversion cut Narberth's lead to just four points and tensions were riding high as both teams went for the win.
Simon Daniel kicked another penalty, which meant Bedwas had to score twice to win, before Andrew James hit back with a penalty late on.
'Mr Reliable' Simon Daniel again popped up late on to kick his sixth penalty of the day to put the score beyond doubt and give Narberth a well-earned win in front of the home crowd.
Narberth play Beddau at the Lewis Lloyd ground this (Friday) evening and are hoping to make it eight out of eight.
With hopes of a top seven finish still on the minds of Otters' fans, all they can do now is win their remaining two fixtures and hope those who have games in hand slip up along the way.
