December saw Tenby hosting its first Christmas Market in the De Valence Pavilion and what a great success it was, enjoyed by the 3,000 people who attended the event. There was a good variety of stalls offering visitors the chance to buy those last minute Christmas presents.
Children who attended were delighted by the wonderful designs of the very talented face painter from Funki Faces and the various activities that were provided. The festivities were not confined to the market either; several local shops stayed open for late night shoppers and a handful of bars hosted bands in the evenings so that those attending the market could extend their evening with a Christmas drink and great entertainment.
Restaurants in the town benefitted from the influx of visitors at a notoriously quiet time of year for Tenby. Guest houses also reported that bookings were up over the weekend due to visitors from Swansea and further afield coming down for the market.
It is hoped that the market will become a permanent fixture in the calendar for years to come. The organisers are very grateful to the many generous businesses in the town who were kind enough to donate a prize to the raffle; a grand total of £633 was raised and will be used to buy more lights for the town for Christmas 2019. Thank you to friends and family and all those who gave up their spare time to volunteer to make the event such a success.
