Next Friday, November 19, sees a night celebrating the new team's arrival at the De Valence Trust, Tenby. The project, which has received Objective 1 funding, to regenerate the old pavilion, and town itself, has now got a director, Darren Knipe, town events co-ordinator, Liz Hurt, and administrator, Jenny Thomas. The event, titled 'RUA 10 Bee Pawn Star?' has created quite a stir in its marketing profile. Darren explained: "The imagery used is just a bit of fun, with nothing meant by it. The hardest thing in promotion is getting noticed. This has certainly got the attention of the public." The night has got a lot on offer. It kicks-off with a very special tribute set, by DJ Methodist (Dave Handford aka Ministry of Defiance), to John Peel, who sadly died recently. "My biggest break came when I sent my music to John Peel," said Dave, who lives in St. Dogmaels, where he runs his own record label, Post Office Records. "To my absolute surprise, he loved it! In total he played about 12 of my tracks in the last two years on his late night session show. It has given my work a huge amount of credibility, and I owe him so much." Other acts on night include 'The Mordekkers', one of the most innovative and unique live bands around. This Pembrokeshire four-piece mix traditional pipes and mandola (like a mandolin) with live drum and bass. The result is an energetic, infectious groove that never fails to get the audience dancing. Also appearing will be 'Dubwise', a very lively funked-up dub band, playing their own versions of songs by the likes of Groove Armada, Stone Roses, Stereo MC's and The Doors; DJ Dubious playing a happy upbeat funk ska two-tone set; and Curlylix, the most entertaining Pembrokeshire DJ duo, playing some of the very best breakbeat and new disco sounds around. Doors open at 7.30 pm and entrance is £5.
