Volunteers at Tenby's Cancer Research UK shop have raised a staggering threequarters-of-a-million pounds for the charity since it opened 12 years ago. And to mark the achievement a special celebration lunch was held on Wednesday. After being presented with buttonholes to wear, the volunteers enjoyed a ride to Carringtons Restaurant aboard the horse-drawn carriage, courtesy of John Dooner and Major Tom, while after a superb meal, they toasted the work of Cancer Research UK with a glass of bubbly provided by restaurant proprietor, Mark Drewett, who also baked a celebration cake for the occasion. The charity's area manager, Helen Evans, praised the tremendous input from the volunteers and also spoke about the work of the charity and scientific research into fighting cancer, while manager of the Tudor Square shop, Julia King Thomas, on behalf of herself and stock controller, Suzie Lawrence, congratulated the volunteers on their achievement and thanked them for their continued support and loyalty. "Raising threequarters-of-a-million pounds is a truly amazing achievement," said Julia. "The volunteers do an absolutely fantastic job and the charity is extremely grateful to them for giving up their time to raise money. "Our celebration lunch was an excellent way of thanking the volunteers for all their hardwork, and we would like to say a special thankyou to John Dooner, Mark Drewett, and Jan Griffiths, of Four Seasons Florists, for their help in making it a day to remember," she added.
