The sight of groups of walkers wearing distinctive black and orange T-shirts has become commonplace in recent weeks as participants in this year's Pembrokeshire Dawn Walk get into shape. Last year's event had originally been intended as a one-off, but was so successful, raising £19,500 for cancer services at Withybush Hospital, that it looks set to become an annual event. On Sunday, May 16, dozens of walkers will set off from the hospital at dawn to walk a 26-mile route to Cresselly Cricket Club. The number of walkers has more than doubled to 150 this year, but the end goal remains the same. One of the organisers, Alison Lewis, said the sight of people training for the walk had inspired others to sign up. "There have been pockets of people training all over Pembrokeshire and that has fired other people up. It is a very sociable event and of course we are raising money for a very good local cause.' The walk seems to hold a particular appeal for women. So far only 10 men have signed up. The event will end with a celebration BBQ at Cresselly Cricket Club, open to all. Anyone who would like to pledge sponsorship can contact Alison Lewis on 01646 651235 or Sally Kinnear on 01646 650003.

Preparing to set off on a training session for the Pembrokeshire Dawn Walk are Alison Lewis, Rachel Hicks, Sally Kinnear, Brid Staples and Mandy Hinchliffe.
