LARGER than life wildlife expert David Bellamy will be celebrating the environmental endeavours of a local holiday park next week. The world famous botanist and environmental expert will be visiting Lydstep Beach Village on Tuesday, when he will be focusing attention on the many eco-friendly projects that have made the park a regular winner of the David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award. Lydstep Beach lies within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and is located directly on the 186- mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path. With its own Blue Flag award winning beach, the park enjoys spectacular views across Lydstep Bay to Caldey Island. The park caters almost exclusively for owners of static holiday homes. In partnership with the National Park Authority, Lydstep Beach jointly funds a park ranger who provides regular guided rock pool rambles on the beach and longer walks along the coast path, as well as actively managing a broad scope of eco- friendly and wildlife projects. David Bellamy, who has recently published a new book 'Conflicts in the Countryside', has said caravan parks are one of the best options for a holiday that allows you to get really close to nature. He will give a talk about the environmental projects that have made this an award-winning park. Lydstep Beach Village's parent company Bourne Leisure also owns British Holidays and Haven Holidays which operate 34 holiday parks around the country. They actively support conservation efforts and most have been awarded the coveted David Bellamy Gold Conservation Awards. Accompanying Professor Bellamy will be Christa Sinclair, environmental advisor to Bourne Leisure. She also represents the British tourism industry on BBSIG - a body that advises the government about the environmental impact of business initiatives. Many local dignitaries are due to attend the event which will also include a presentation by park ranger Kiri Howell. David Bellamy's tour of Lydstep's nature trail takes place in the afternoon and is open to interested local residents as well as caravan owners.
