DARWIN Centre co-ordinator Marten Lewis was a guest at the House of Lords last month. The invite came from Lords Hunt of Chesterton and Livesy of Talgarth, and was part of a series of presentations on the proposed building of a replica HMS Beagle, the ship made famous by the voyages of Charles Darwin.

The Beagle Trust, a charity with close ties to Pembrokeshire, invited the county's Darwin Centre to advise on public engagement and schools education in science. A presentation to many business people and eminent scientists was arranged by the Beagle Trust and their supporting peers.

Marten Lewis spoke to the guests about the experiences and success of the Darwin Centres programmes and how it could be used to pilot potential educational and engagement activities on and around an iconic vessel such as the Beagle.

The Darwin project which drew the most attention was the PEASAT Project, sponsored by Dragon LNG, Waterston. PEASAT is an all-inclusive programme of field work and curriculum driven workshops offered to all schools in Pembrokeshire.

The Darwin Centre wish the Beagle Trust every success in their bid to realise their dream of a replica HMS Beagle that can be used for research and to inspire scientists of the future.
