Dancing teacher Siobhan O'Sullivan has reeled off a double success at the recent CRN Irish Open championships. Seventeen-year-old Siobhan, of Pembrokeshire's Hynes School of Irish Dancing, became the event's youngest teacher to have a top award-winning pupil when Naomi Hunt, of Tenby, took the Under 11 Ullmhuchan award. And Siobhan was also a winner in her own right as a dancer, when she claimed sixth place in the prestigious contest's Ard Grad Under 17 award. Fourteen of the 17 pupils that qualified from the school, which has classes in Saundersfoot and Pembroke Dock, danced at the event in Dublin. Amongst them were several dancers competing in Ireland for the first time, including Leah Asparassa and Georgia Murphy, who gained third and 10th places, respectively, in their awards. In the competition the day before the championships, there were a number of medal successes by Leah Asparassa (two 1sts and a fifth), Caitlin Thompson (one 1st, two seconds and a third), Katie Harries (two 1sts), Molly Ashton (3rd and 4th), Talfan Jenkins (3rd), Georgia Murphy (two highly commendeds), Shannon Robins (5th and highly commended) and Siobhan O'Sullivan (fifth and two highly commended). Also competing were Hari Boswell, Charlotte Rees, Jordan Southgate, Caitlin Cumberland, Siriol Jenkins and Alice Davies. The school's lively show dancing team is in action at various venues throughout Pembrokeshire this summer. They recently appeared at the Fishguard Folk Festival and will be dancing next at the Pembroke Dock Midsummer Festival on June 14.
