Claims for damages against Dyfed-Powys Police by the former licensee and the former manager of Chequers Night Club have been dismissed this week.

Mr. Dafydd Gittins and Mr. Gareth Barrett launched a substantial civil claim against the police for malicious prosecution following their arrest on September 5, 1997, in connection with alleged drugs offences at the Penally night-spot.

While Mr. Barrett was later cleared of all charges, Mr. Gittins was convicted at Swansea Crown Court, only to have this conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal in London.

The duo launched their bid for damages against Dyfed-Powys Police at a special Civil High Court trial presided over by His Lordship Graham Jones at the Crown Court, Shire Hall, Haverfordwest, last month.

On Wednesday, following a four-week hearing, the jury returned in favour of the police on all eight questions and dismissed the claim for damages.
