St Johns Church Daffodil Festival opened on Wednesday of last week, with 3,000 daffodils decorating the church, following the theme of the celebration of St. Johns’ 150 years.
The wedding dress of Eluned Brown, the oldest member, worn for her wedding in St. Johns, beside the Christening gown of Megan, the youngest member, was one great exhibition.
The Craft Group showed off their various skills. The Welsh cake ladies, the Flower Group, and the maintenance personnel were all represented. In the lobby were photos of today’s elders and lists of past treasurers, secretaries and organists, as well as photographs of all the past ministers.
Various groups had decorated stands, and the church pews were decorated with posies of daffodils commemorating past members, friends and family.
On the stage were representations of Harvest, Pentecost, the Birth of Jesus and his Death on the Cross, with the words RISEN in daffodils. Outside, a huge cross of daffodils was displayed.
The snow cancelled all the activities that were to happen as part of the festival, Tenby Male Choir, harpist, handbells and jazz band... as well as all the Welsh cakes that were made that weren’t eaten because nobody wanted to come out in the snow and ice.
The church was closed on Thursday and Friday, but opened again for Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The daffodils lasted beautifully until after the coffee morning on Wednesday.
St. Johns hopes that some of the activities cancelled will happen in the future and extends thanks to everybody for their hard work, and the worry that endured because of the weather.
Please come and join in the Easter celebrations, and all the other events arranged throughout the year to celebrate with us St. Johns Church’s 150 years.
