Members of the Cymdeithas Cymrodorion, Dinbych-y-Pysgod celebrated St. David's Day in a most enjoyable way last Thursday, when 36 members and friends gathered at Waves restaurant, Celtic Haven, for a celebratory lunch.

When chairman John Bevan had welcomed everyone, he invited Rev. Michael John to say grace prior to lunch being served, and thus began the afternoon's festivities. Lamb being on the menu, this proved to be the most popular choice, whilst others enjoyed chicken. There was plenty of conversation across the busy tables. For dessert, pecan pie and lemon cheesecake both proved to be delicious, whilst some friends chose ice-cream or fresh fruit salad.

Once coffee had been served, John called upon lifetime president, Islwyn John, to raise the loyal toast to our Patron Saint Dewi, and thereafter, John invited Rev. Michael John, guest speaker, to address the gathering.

As usual, Michael's talk proved interesting and amusing. He posed three questions relating to St. David to begin his talk and asked about Dewi's connections to Penally, to Shakespeare and to Rolf Harris (the latter being somewhat tenuous!)

Whilst some in the membership could supply some answers, many of learned something new about St. David!

Michael went on to talk about David, and then later, to talk about his desires and efforts to learn Welsh and about his Welsh antecedents. He also said a little about his forthcoming move to a new parish, which will take him back to his area of origin. Light-hearted but very engaging, Michael's talk was much enjoyed.

Secretary Mollie Neate gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the members present and a brief discussion followed regarding the date for the annual general meeting. It was decided that this should be on Thursday, March 22, at 10.30 am, at St. Johns schoolroom. As this meeting is important for appointing new officers for 2012/13 and for planning a programme for that period, the present committee would encourage as many members and friends as possible to go along.

In an oversight from last month's report, the secretary wishes to make known to those absent from last month's meeting, that members voted to donate £50 to the appeal made by the Waldo Society for a contribution towards the new bust of Waldo being sculpted. Individual members had already been contacted and had made donations, but it was felt that the society could afford a donation for this memorial to a famous son of Pembrokeshire, and the treasurer has forwarded this. The memorial will be sited in Ysgol y Preseli.

After the annual general meeting on March 22, there will be a break from meetings until October.
