Communities and schools throughout Pembrokeshire are being invited to get involved with The Tour of Pembrokeshire on Sunday, June 12t, a charity cycling event that will bring hundreds of non-competitive cyclists to the county to join local riders for the day. There are three routes - 63, 82 and 117 miles - all starting and finishing in Saundersfoot.

The event organiser, Peter Walker, of Pembrokeshire Bike Shop, Narberth, is inviting communities along the route to offer cyclists encouragement and a warm welcome as they pass by.

"Sometimes people may think that cycling events are only for the super-fit, competitive rider," said Peter. "But this event is all about having a terrific day of cycling through some of the UK's most spectacular countryside, raising the profile of Pembrokeshire as a superb cycling destination, the importance of keeping fit and healthy, as well as funds for the Wales Air Ambulance Service and other charities to which we have donated over £20,000. I am hoping that the communities along the route will offer the cyclists a warm welcome and enjoy the spectacle as they travel by."

The Tour of Pembrokeshire, now in its fourth year, is fast-becoming a 'must-do' event among the ever-growing cycling community in the UK. All the routes have challenging climbs and the long route passes over the Preselis and through the Gwaun Valley. The local Rotary clubs provide marshalling at the four feed-stations at Goodwick Moor Car Park, Broad Haven Car Park, Castlemartin Range Car Park and Pembroke Rugby Club.

At the finish at the Regency Hall in Saundersfoot, participants will be offered a massage by students from Pembrokeshire College, a local ham, leek and pasta meal prepared by Alfresco Catering and hosted by the organisers and the chance to chat to bicycle and accessory manufacturers and view their product displays.

The main event sponsors are: The Chevron Refinery, Pembroke; Pembrokeshire Bike Shop, Narberth; Sabbath Bicycles; FBM Holidays; Mavic UK; Paligap; South West Wales Tourism Partnership and Bottle Sport. The event is supported by the Pembrokeshire Rotary clubs, Saundersfoot Lions, Raynet and a host of other dedicated people.
