A PROJECT manager with Mencap Cymru will be turning to pedal power this summer to raise funds for the charity she works for.

Thirty-six-year-old Paula Greenhalgh is planning to take part in a sponsored bicycle ride through Brazil in August, to not only raise money for Mencap Cymru as a charity, but to increase people's awareness of what the Pembrokeshire branch provides for individuals with learning disabilities and their families.

Paula, who has been employed by Mencap Cymru in Pembrokeshire for two-and-a-half years, feels privileged to work in a caring job which she greatly enjoys, and is looking forward to the challenges of not only the 324km cycle ride itself, but raising the sum of £2,500.

Mencap Cymru's aim is to improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities, helping them to make informed choices and benefit from new experiences, and encouraging them to become more independent in both their own homes and within the community.

Paula, who lives in Pembroke, is aiming to raise the £2,500 required through sponsorship and various fund-raising events, which she is organising with the help of her colleagues.

In preparation for the 10-day event, which begins in Rio De Janeiro on August 19, Paula, who enjoys keep fit, is embarking on a five-day-a-week training project.

Any sponsorship would be appreciated and anyone who is able to help Paula with her fund-raising is asked to contact her on (01646) 621208.
