Dyfed Powys Police Authority is looking for volunteers to carry out checks on police custody suites.
The Independent Custody Visitors scheme involves members of the community attending unannounced at police custody suites to check on the treatment of people in custody and the conditions in which they are held.
Volunteers are currently needed throughout the force area but particularly in Carmarthenshire and Powys.
Ken Howells, chair of the community engagement and external relations of the police authority, said: "This role is important as it not only offers protection to people in custody, but also helps to build confidence between the police and the communities they serve.
"Volunteers only need to commit to two visits a month, they get full training, their travelling expenses are paid and they work in pairs.
"Although people working in the criminal justice system are exempt from applying it would be ideal for young people interested in the police or the law."
Applicants must be aged over 18 and must live, work or study within the Dyfed Powys Police Authority area.
Anyone interested can contact the authority on 01267 226440 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] for a full application pack.
