Kilgetty lost out in the first round of the Alec Colley Cup against a strong Llangwm side containing a couple of players with previous first team experience. In the end, this experienced counted as the Kingsmoor outfit fell at the first hurdle, despite playing at home. The homesters batted first and could only muster 106-8 against some accurate bowling, with Mike Beynon striking three maximums together with another three boundaries on his way to 45. The only other score of note was Gareth Gwyther's 13. In reply, the visitors passed the total for the loss of only one wicket as Alastair Platten struck 42 not out and Joseph Kiff an unbeaten 21. Despite the defeat there was something to smile about with Kilgetty's fielding performance and that was the catch taken by young Kyle Marsh off the bowling of Gareth Gwyther to dismiss opener Ian Gow for 11. Lawrenny entertained Narberth and eased their way to an eight-wicket win, with the father and son duo of Barry and James Phillips taking them home with an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 66. Narberth batted first and scored a meagre 101 all out as Alun Evans and Steve Rees shared six wickets between them. Only Andrew Williams with 26 managed to get on top of the accurate home team attack. In reply, Lawrenny lost Alun Evans and Phil Cole cheaply, but Barry Phillips with 47 not out and young James with 25 not out saw them home, the latter striking a magnificent six to cross the finishing line Lamphey's trip to Burton was nothing short of disastrous as they were bundled out for a paltry 48; Lewis Haines top scoring with 12 as Luke Hayman took four wickets and John Griffiths three. Burton eased home for the loss of no wickets in just under seven overs. Pembroke may have been forced to travel the long way to Llanrhian, but the journey didn't faze them as they batted first and scored 107 all out. Dan Scourfield top scored with 30, while other scores of note came from Chris Thomas with 21, Huw Davies with 18 and Sean Powell with 15. The home team were then bowled out for a mere 79 as Paul Rogers took 3-22 and Sean Powell 3-16 in a magnificent all-round performance for him. Cresselly were given a scare by Hook despite playing at home and notching a respectable 140-6 as Scott Arthur top scored with 39. Sam Harts and Matthew Lewis also got in on the act as they put on 51 for the sixth wicket with some lusty blows between them as Harts scored 25 and Lewis 21 not out. Hook made a valiant attempt at scoring the runs as they finished up with 131-4. At one stage they were 101-2, but ran out of overs against some accurate bowling. Matthew Lewis was Cresselly's best bowler with 2 -29. St. Ishmaels entertained Stackpole and had no problems in beating the visitors who could only muster 62-7 against Tish's 169-6. Richard Mackay and Sam Evans took two wickets apiece as Phil Cockburn top scored with 64 not out. Only Jamie Roberts with 39 not out came to terms with the home team's attack as Daniel Flynn took 5-6 off his five overs. Whitland had an easy passage into the next round as they batted first against Camrose and Spittal and scored 136-5. Openers Matthew Webb and Meyrick Rowlands put on 43 for the first wicket before Webb fell for 10, but Rowlands was in no mood to surrender his wicket as he scored 49 with five 4s. Dwayne Reynolds and Carl Stephenson were the not out batsmen at the end, scoring 16 and 18, respectively. Camrose were then skittled out for 55 as Reynolds took 3-11, Carl Smith 2-12, Shaun Lynch 2-15 and Simon Davies 3-10 in a great exhibition of bowling by the home team.
Tony Pidgeon Ormond Youth Cup - preliminary round In the preliminary round of the Tony Pidgeon Ormond Youth Cup, Carew scored 135 for 7 in their away match at Saundersfoot. After 10 overs, the visitors were 47 for four, but a fifth wicket partnership of 76 between Joe Kidney and Mathew Whitfield changed the course of the match. Kidney scored 38 and Whitfield 37. For the Saundersfoot team, Yannick Parker took 2 for 22, David Dunfee 2 for 21 and Andrew Evans 2 for 49. In reply, Saundersfoot reached 124 for five to fall 12 runs short of the winning target. Yannick Parker led the run chase in his innings of 39, Toby Smith provided support with 18 and there were useful knocks by Andrew Evans and Grant Hardy with 14 and 13, respectively. In other matches, Hook had a walkover against Llechryd, who were unable to field a side to travel, and Fishguard won by seven wickets at home to Haverfordwest, who were bowled out for 42. The combined Neyland and Johnston team reached 124 for seven at home to Llangwm who won by seven wickets upon reaching 129 for 7.
Duggie Morris Cup -round one
After their annihilation of Lamphey in the Harrison- Allen Bowl Lawrenny would have been confident of travelling to Neyland and winning their first round Duggie Morris clash, but sadly, this wasn't the case. Competent batting and accurate bowling by the home side coupled with outstanding fielding was enough to see them through as they batted first and reached 114-9. There were no real stars in the Neyland total, just good teamwork as Gregg Miller top scored with 24, Sean Hannon hit 17, while Henry Durant, Andrew Miller and Scott John all chipped in with double figure scores. For Lawrenny, James Buckle was the best bowler with 3-19, while young leg spinner Phil Cole grabbed 3-27 as Robert Williams finished with 2 -19. In reply, Lawrenny were bundled out for 95 as youngster James Phillips top scored with 32, which included two 6s and two 4s, and Hugh Griffiths hit 24 against the accurate bowling of Gregg Miller, who took 3-20 and Henry Durant, who took 2-19. Narberth and Hook served up a great dish of cricket as visiting Narberth donned their pads first to rack up a challenging total of 143-4. Marc Hughes top scored with 47, a knock that included six sweetly struck boundaries, while Tom Richards was unbeaten on 33. Ian Hughes slammed a quickfire 23 with a six and three 4s as Tom Blaxland took 2 -22. Hook were always slightly behind the run rate, however, as they fell tantalisingly short, finishing on 132-5, as Kyle Quartermaine steamed in to take 3-22 and Gary Hughes, displaying all of his experience, took 2-29. For Hook, Martyn Rees top scored with 45 as Brennan Lay hit 30 and Ben Field 21. Andrew Thomas was there at the end with 26 not out to his name. The other game to take place on Tuesday night was between Lamphey and Haverfordwest, with the current Division One champions electing to bat first on an excellent batting track. Their greater experience told as they posted a mammoth 209-4, with teenage opener Adam James hitting a mightily impressive 138. Despite his tender age, he displayed a range of strokes hit with the power of a man twice his age as he slammed the bowling to all parts of the ground, striking seven 6s and 19 fours. He put on an opening partnership with Adam Raymond worth 54, with Raymond adding just two to the total before he gave a tame catch to Chris Forth off the bowling of stand-in skipper Jason Oatley. Dai Davies showed his skills with the bat as he struck 32, while Huw Scriven was 21 not out at the end. Oatley finished with 3-32, while off-spinner Hywel Gibbs took 1-28. In reply, Lamphey lost Peter McGilloway early on after he was bowled by Chris Phillips, while Forth went soon after as Phillips struck again. Lamphey were not going to lie down, however, and Nic Johnson and Hywel Gibbs soon latched on to any loose bowling to hit 59 and 39, respectively, Johnson hitting two consecutive sixes to bring up his half century. Gibbs departed with four overs remaining, giving a soft catch to visiting skipper Nick Dyer in the covers, but Oatley came in to hit a couple of boundaries in his unbeaten 14 to give Lamphey a respectable 130-5.
