Round Two
Saundersfoot had a comprehensive win at Crymych who were bowled out for just 45 in reply to a Saundersfoot total of 139 for 5. Paul Mansbridge top scored for the visitors with 31, supported by Jason Llama with 22 and Steve Cole with 21. Lee Pearce took 2 for 27 and Dai Jenkins 2 for 38 for Crymych. Eurig Lewis had a brisk innings of 20, but the Crymych batsmen found Danny Caine unplayable as he took 8 for 4. The four runs did not come off the bat as they were four wides! The local derby at Cresselly drew a big crowd with spectators forced to park out on the road. The match could have gone either way until Carew notched up a three wickets win with one ball of the match remaining. Cresselly totalled 156 for 5 largely due to a second wicket partnership of 78 between the in-form Phil Williams and Simon Cole. Williams scored 46 with five fours before being caught by Nick Scourfield off the bowling of Robert Scourfield and Simon Cole scored 36 before giving Simon Wood the charge and being bowled. Adam Chandler finished with 24 not out and Damian Arthur scored 22. Simon Wood finished with figures of 2 for 31. Fortunes fluctuated when Carew replied. Opener Brian Hall scored 43 before falling to a diving catch by Richard Harris off the bowling of Ryan Lewis, Tim Hicks supported with 29, as did Wayne Cannon with 22 and Phil Jones had a quick fire innings of 16. When the last over started, Carew needed nine to win. Lyn Richards, the Cresselly skipper, bowled to his opposite number Rob Scourfield who took a single off the first ball. You could feel the tension as the second ball was bowled and when Tim Hicks was bowled by Lyn Richards, it caused jubilation in one camp and disappointment in the other. The disappointment in the Carew camp was short lived. Young all-rounder Rhys Davies arrived at the crease and dispatched the first ball that he received over long on for six. The tension was almost unbearable as Richards bowled the next ball which was a dot ball. Davies hit the next ball wide of long on and the batsmen scampered two runs to win the match and book a place in the quarter-finals. Spinner Ryan Lewis and Richard Harris both finished with 2 for 35. Hundleton won by six wickets away to Camrose and Spittal after bowling out the home team for 63. Skipper Malcolm Arnold top scored with 20 and there were 11 extras as Nigel Arthur took 3 for 8, Chris Stapleton 3 for 13 and Jonathan Williams 3 for 32. Hundleton had little difficulty in knocking off the winning runs as Morgan Allen scored 25, with both Scott Richards and Riaan Strydom scoring 10 each. The quarter-finals will be played during the first week in July, with Lawrenny home to Llechryd, Narberth home to Neyland, St. Ishmaels home to Hundleton and Carew home to Saundersfoot.
