Llangwm will play Haverfordwest in the final of the Dyrham Service Station Alec Colley Cup at Pembroke on Sunday, August 19. Llangwm reached the final following a surprise win over Carew in the semi-final as the visitors could only reach 84 for 8 in response to a Llangwm total of 88 all out. Ian Phillips top scored for Llangwm before being caught by Nick Cope off the bowling of Aled Davies, Huw Brock scored 17 before being one of four victims of leg-spinner Ceri Brace and there were 25 extras. Aled Davies finished with 5 for 19 and Ceri Brace took 4 for 21. Although Nick Cope tried to hold the Carew innings together after Martin Scourfield had been bowled by Jonathan Brock for 13, Cope lacked the necessary support. When he was bowled by Rhys Morgan for a fighting innings of 30, which included three fours and one six, the writing was on the wall for the visitors who just could not get enough runs on the board. Rhys Morgan finished with 2 for 17 and James Lewis took 3 for 26. In the other semi-final at Haverfordwest, the visitors Burton lost by just one run having required 10 to win off the last over bowled by Chris Phillips. Earlier, Andrew Phillips had an excellent innings of 71 not with eight fours and one six in a Harfat total of 134 for 4. He was supported by Julian James with 26, Jamie Jenkins with 16 and Steve James with 13. In reply, an undefeated 25 by Narberth rugby player Mathew Davies almost took Burton home but their innings closed on 133 for 5. Earlier, opener James Scale scored 44, Chris Goodridge 28 and John Griffiths was 15 not out with Davies at the end. Josh Wilment took 2 for 25 and Nigel Delaney 2 for 33 for Haverfordwest. In the first round of the Ken Morris Cup, Carew won by 36 runs at home to Narberth who were bowled out for 96 chasing a Carew total of 132 for 7. There were 43 extras in the Carew innings and experienced middle order batsman Martyn Cole scored 35 not out with Huw Brock, Richard Cope and Mark Hicks scoring 11 apiece. For the visitors, Neil Rossiter took 2 for 24, Brinley Toms 2 for 25 and Huw Simpkins 2 for 36. When Narberth batted, young left-hander Brinley Toms top scored with 29, backed up by Mathew Evans with 21 and Huw Simpkins with 13, while Carew only conceded nine extras. Excellent bowling by spinner Ceri Brace resulted in a return of 5 for 28 and his father Gareth who was the Carew captain took 3 for 25. There were three father and sons in the Carew team, Martyn and Chris Cole, Mark and Luke Hicks and Gareth and Ceri Brace. Whitland travelled to Burton and reached a total of 95 for 9 following good batting by Owen Edwards who scored 38, an innings which included one six and three fours and Mathew Webb with 13. The opening pair had a first wicket stand of 37, but no other batsman reached double figures, although there were 17 extras. Graham Morris took 5 for 24 and Ian Woods 2 for 26. In an exciting finish, Burton were bowled out for 92 from the last ball bowled by Paul and Mathew Webb. Burton had required five to win off the last over, but had a single off the first ball and failed to score another run. After three successive dot balls, Webb took two consecutive wickets to take Whitland through to the next round. There were 25 extras in the Burton innings and former Narberth winger John Whitticombe scored 17 and Daniel John 12. Owen Edwards took 3 for 34, Tom Edwards 3 for 22, Ashley Evans 2 for 13 and Mathew Webb 2 for 4.
