Graham Jewson Harrison-Allen Bowl - Round Two

In the second round of the Graham Jewson Harrison-Allen Bowl, Cresselly won by five wickets at Saundersfoot after holding the home team to a total of 117 for 9. Crucially Lyn Richards and Huw Neale bowled maidens in the 19th and 20th overs to keep the runs in check. Also big hitting Ryan Lewis was let off the hook with a dropped catch early in his innings when Cresselly replied and, who knows, his departure could have triggered a quick fall of wickets. Ian Poole hit five 4s in his innings of 40 for Saundersfoot, all-rounder Danny Caine scored 34 with three 4s and two 6s, while Paul Mansbridge scored all of his 14 runs in boundaries. Huw Neale took 3 for 28 for the visitors and Stefan Jenkins had figures of 2 for 37. Cresselly reached 120 for 5 with just over one over remaining. Andrew Harris hit five 4s in his innings of 26 and Adam Chandler scored 23. Ryan Lewis made Saundersfoot pay for the dropped catch by scoring a quickfire 24, including two 6s and a four, to help Cresselly attain a winning total. David Parcell, Danny Caine, skipper Chris Parker and Dan Trowers each picked up a wicket for the Saundersfoot team. First division Narberth were too strong for third division Camrose and Spittal, who worked hard to get to 95 for 8 in response to the Narberth total of 156 for 1. A second wicket partnership of 124 between skipper Marc Hughes and Kyle Quartermaine provided the backbone to the Narberth innings after Richard Adams had been bowled by David Crane for 11 when 32 runs were on the board. Hughes scored 69 not out from 65 deliveries with eight 4s and Quartermaine exactly 50 not out from 49 balls with six 4s. Camrose and Spittal wickets fell at regular intervals, although Kim Norkett made a brave effort to prevent the innings falling apart as he scored 36 from 33 balls with oa six and four 4s, before he was beaten and bowled by the guile of spinner Matthew Johns. Earlier opener Steve Blowes scored a patient 15 before being bowled by Kyle Quartermaine. Matthew Johns finished with figures of 3 for 21 and Ben Quartermaine took 2 for 24. There will be a full round-up of the other second round matches in next week's Observer.
