Manorbier v St. Florence

These two teams met again for the second time in a week, this time in the Alan Brown Cup, but the result was the same, victory for Manorbier. On a slow damp pitch, the Manorbier openers made a fortunate start as a number of catches just wouldn't stick for the St. Florence fielders. Eventually both openers fell in the eighth and ninth overs with 27 on the board. This brought Jonathan Hughes and Peter Oeppen to the crease who increased the scoring rate with some lusty blows, Hughes falling for 40 just before the close and Oeppen an undefeated 37. Best of the bowling was Tommy Roberts with 1 for 18 from his six overs. The other wicket takers were Steve Hughes with 1 for 29 and young Will Thomas with 1 for 32. Thomas, aged 14, in his first full season is certainly looking a very useful bowling prospect for St. Florence. The total of 125 looked gettable as Steve Hughes and skipper Ben McDonnell opened up at a good rate, but when Hughes was dismissed for 20, the young St. Florence side subsided to 70 for 9 in their 22 overs. A good all-round bowling performance by Manorbier from Will Davidson with 3 for 14, Neil Powling and Jonathon Hughes, both with 2 for 10 and Justin Evans with 2 for 22.
