In the first semi-final of the Graham Jewson Harrison-Allen Bowl, Haverfordwest defeated Neyland by 47 runs on Tuesday evening at Burton.
Second Division Neyland bowled and fielded well to dismiss First Division Haverfordwest for 122, despite losing wicket-keeper Sean Hannon and bowler John Jones for Hospital treatment after both were injured during the Haverfordwest innings.
Six Haverfordwest batsmen got into double figures and the Haverfordwest innings received a boost through a sixth wicket partnership of 37 between Andrew and Stephen Phillips and some lusty blows by wicket-keeper Huw Scriven.
Stephen Phillips scored 22, while Andrew Phillips and Huw Scriven both scored 19.
For Neyland, Ian Charles gave nothing away in a 1 for 14 spell, while Greg Miller and Jeremy Charles both took three wickets each.
Neyland suffered a blow when the influential Miller brothers, Greg and skipper Andrew, both fell in the first over bowled by Clive Tucker.
While 16-year-old Paul Murray was at the crease there was a game on, but Murray's quality innings of 40, which included a six and five 4s, ended when he was leg before wicket in the first over bowled by Matthew Johns.
Following the departure of Murray, the remaining wickets fell quickly as Neyland were bowled out for 75, with John Jones unable to bat
Spin twins Matthew Johns and Clive Tucker did most of the damage for the Town, with Johns returning figures of 4 for 11 in just over three overs and Tucker 2 for 20. The other wickets fell to Adrian Griffiths and Simon Williams.
The second semi-final between Cresselly and Whitland was scheduled to be played yesterday (Thursday) evening at Kilgetty.
Dyrham Service Station Alec Colley Cup
In the first round of the Alec Colley Cup, Llangwm won by 48 runs at home to Herbrandston after building up a commanding total of 155 for 7. William Beresford had an excellent innings of 58, Huw Brock scored 26 and there were 28 extras. Carl John took 4 for 40 for Herbrandston.
Controlled bowling by Chris Inward with 3 for 12, Julian Platten with three wickets for no runs in one over and Alastair Platten with 2 for 32 resulted in Herbie being restricted to 107 for 9 in reply.
Opener Alan McLlelland scored 38 with six fours for the visitors and the other batsmen in double figures were Carl John with 22 and Hugh Devonald with 11.
Carew won by four wickets at home to Whitland after bowling out the visitors for 96. Darren Rees top scored for the visitors with 27 before being run out in the search for quick runs and skipper Andrew Williams chipped in with 23 before he was also run out.
The Whitland total was also bolstered by 27 extras.
Wily campaigner Martyn Cole kept the Whitland batsmen pinned down as he took 3 for 14 in five tight overs and there were two wickets each for Carew skipper Ceri Davies and Matthew Phillips.
Opener Martin Scourfield played a crucial role in Carew reaching a winning total of 97 for 6 with seven balls remaining. He anchored one end, but also kept the scoreboard ticking over with a composed innings of 42 before he was leg before wicket to Owen Edwards. Support came from Ben Evans with 19 and Gerald Hicks with 10 not out.
For Whitland, Owen Edwards took 2 for 12 in four overs and Shaun Lynch 2 for 21.
Ormond Youth Cup (sponsored by Tony Pidgeon)
In the remaining quarter-finals of the Ormond Youth Cup, Llangwm won by four runs at home to Neyland and Cresselly won by eight wickets at home to Haverfordwest.
At Llangwm, Chris Inward scored 36 and Stephen Inward 28 in a Llangwm total of 94 for 8. For Neyland, Patrick Hannon bowled exceptionally well in a 3 for 12 spell and Jay Dunsford took 3 for 18.
Neyland were well placed at 57 for no wicket, but excellent bowling by Chris Inward with 3 for 22, Andrew Brock with 2 for 11 and Matthew Kiff with 2 for 8 resulted in the visitors being bowled out for 90.
Patrick Hannon with 27 and Paul Murray with 20 were the main run scorers for Neyland.
At Cresselly, the visitors Haverfordwest were held to 90 for 6, despite the efforts of Mathew Morgan with 32.
Luke Barford took 3 for 23 for Cresselly and Paul Guest 2 for 14.
Luke Barford followed up his three wickets to score 36 not out, supported by Andrew Harris 20 and Paul Guest 20 not out as Cresselly reached a winning total of 92 for 2 in the 15th over. Jonathan Morgan took 2 for 20 for the Town.
Taverspite Garden Centre Alan Brown Cup Final
Herbrandston won the Alan Brown Cup after defeating Division Three promotion rivals Johnston by seven wickets in Sunday's final at Whitland.
Herbrandston had a lead of 18 runs in the first innings of 22 overs, after scoring 132 for 6 in response to a Johnston total of 114 for 6.
Peter Spencer was the major contributor to the Herbie total with a cultured 76 before being run out by Gary James, while John Summons and Gary Stephens both scored 36 in the Johnston innings.
In the second innings, opening batsman John Summons batted well again for Johnston with 54. However, the Herbie bowling quartet of Stephen Bennett, Jonathan Bennett, Michael Spearing and Michael Williams kept the runs in check to pressurise the batsmen and wickets fell so that Johnston were bowled out for 108.
Herbrandston needed 91 to win and reached 94 for 3 with a controlled batting display led by Peter Spencer with 36 not out, to win the Alan Brown Cup for the second time.
Not surprisingly, Peter Spencer was nominated Man of the Match by adjudicator Paul Webb for his quality batting in each innings for Herbrandston.
