Falling rock and rubble from clifftops in Saundersfoot has caused concern amongst the community. During last weekend's horrendous weather conditions, two separate incidents in the village saw rocks fall from cliffs at the end of the harbour and also in The Strand. Firefighters from Tenby were called out during the torrential rain on Sunday afternoon to remove rocks and rubble that had landed on a parked car at The Strand. Saundersfoot's representative on Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes, was alarmed by the incidents and has called for urgent action before a more serious accident occurs. "I received a phone call Sunday lunchtime regarding the cliff falls onto The Strand, and was concerned to discover that rubble and rocks had indeed fallen onto a resident's parked vehicle," said Clr. Mrs. Hayes. "I dialled Pembrokeshire County Council's emergency telephone number and informed them over the matter. "The real concern is of course that a car can be replaced, but it makes me shudder to think that a person could have been hit by the falling rocks. "Obviously the weather had been abnormal throughout the night and very heavy showers of rain had fallen that morning. "Hopefully the county council will see that this problem is dealt with urgently and I will keep on their case to make sure that there is no further danger to the community," she added. A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council commented: "The rock falls at Saundersfoot have fallen from private land and in the case of The Strand area onto the highway. Barriers have been put up on this area and will be left up over the next couple of weeks while the matter is dealt with. "We will be identifying the land owners and contacting them to make sure that we do all we can to make sure that this doesn't happen again. "Unfortunately, it's a natural order that cliffs do erode from time to time, but we will be monitoring the situation," they added.
