The Annual Pembrokeshire Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships took place last week in the grounds of Oakwood Park. Some 400 secondary school children from nine Pembrokeshire schools braved the wind and hail to compete for selection for the Dyfed Championships in Tregib.

Participating schools included Ysgol Dewi Sant, Fishguard RC School, Ysgol Y Preseli, Tasker Milward, Sir Thomas Picton, Pembroke School, Milford Haven Comprehensive, Greenhill School and Netherwood School.

The first eight in the four categories will now go through to the Dyfed Championships where places in the National Championships in Brecon await them.

Mr. Richards, of Sir Thomas Picton School and one of the championship organisers, said: "This annual event has again been a huge success. I would like to thank all the children who took part, all the teachers that gave up their time to help organise the event and coach the children and I'd like to thank Oakwood for sponsoring the championships again by providing refreshments and making their grounds available for the course.

"Best of luck to all the winners for the Dyfed Championships next week."
