Crisp manufacturers, Real Crisps, could be set to 'bloom' in Tenby after assuring local councillors that they are to change the print of the packaging of their Handcooked Sea Salt flavoured range which contained a line referring to the seaside resort which many locals found disrespectful.

The packets used the phrase 'the inferior scrapings from a Tenby boulder' when explaining what they wouldn't use to achieve their flavour.

Many Tenby councillors believed that the reference was detrimental to the town and asked the company to remove the wording from the packaging, which they agreed to do.

"Rest assured that the removal of the name of the good town of Tenby from our packaging is imminent. Our next print run, within the next few weeks, will signal the end of the offending packs, never to be seen again," wrote John Mudd, sales and marketing director for Real Crisps, in a letter brought before councillors at their meeting on Tuesday.

It was agreed that a letter of thanks should be sent to the company, with Clr. Mike Evans also suggesting that the crisp manufacturers may be interested in some form of sponsorship for the town which could prove positive publicity for the company.

"Maybe Real Crisps could sponsor a flower bed for Tenby in Bloom, where they could have their logo displayed florally; it would be in good humour and show that there's no hard feelings," he said. "It would certainly prove a better advert for their Sea Salt crisps in Tenby than their packets," remarked Mayor, Clr. Trevor Hallett.
