Dyfed Powys Police are taking cars from criminals.

The force is using legislation linked to the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) to make criminals pay.

POCA allows the force to seize cash and confiscate proceeds of crime.

Legislation linked to the act also allows officers to seize cars or other property from criminals if we believe it has been used to facilitate the commission of the crime.

Detective Inspector Richard Hopkin, of the Financial Crime Team (FCT), said: "This legislation is all about ensuring that criminals do not benefit from their crimes.

"Taking the vehicles from criminals is just another way of ensuring they pay for their crime and also helps prevent them committing more."

The BMW in the photo was confiscated from a man who was convicted of possessing drugs with intention to supply.

DI Hopkin added: "This man had used this vehicle to travel into the Dyfed Powys area and when stopped he was found to be in possession of drugs and over £1,200 in cash. Both the cash and drugs were forfeited before he was sent to prison and now he has also lost his BMW car.

"This should send a clear message to criminals - the FCT will ensure you do not benefit from your crimes."

Anyone who knows someone who they suspect maybe living off the proceeds of crime can contact the FCT on 101.
