Saundersfoot edged nearer promotion from division two with a win over Haverfordwest Seconds on Saturday. In the process, they leap-frogged over rivals St. Ishmaels, who were denied by the rain.

Saundersfoot put Haverfordwest in to bat after winning the toss and had early success, with Dan Caine removing opener Dai Davies.

Danny James, the other Saundersfoot opening bowler, then took charge and bowled unchanged to return figures of 5 for 24 from his 12 overs.

Only middle order batsmen Simon James (10) and Steve James (13) were able to reach double figures and the innings closed in the 26th over with Haverfordwest all out for 41.

Kevin Sykes 3 for 8 and Chris Parker 1 for 2 mopped up the Haverfordwest tail to leave Saundersfoot an easy total to pass, their only fear being the weather.

In an attempt to beat the rain, quick runs were required. Saundersfoot wobbled at 15 for 3, but sensible batting from Paul Mansbridge and Steve Cook saw them home, both batsman scoring 14 not out.

This win puts Saundersfoot 17 points clear of St. Ishmaels, their nearest rivals and next opponents in what will turn out to be Saundersfoot's most important game of the season.
