Division One
These are heady days for Lawrenny cricketers. Three wins on the bounce and top of division one and above defending champions Haverfordwest, Cresselly and Carew. Who said that this would be a three horse race between Haverfordwest, Cresselly and Carew? At present Lawrenny clearly have other ideas. At Neyland on Bank Holiday Monday good all round bowling by Rob Williams with three for 28, Ceri Jones with two for 28 and Ian Jenkins with two for 42 restricted the Neyland team to a total of 141 for eight. Skipper Andrew Miller top scored with 33 and had support from Jeremy Charles with 20 and Henry Durant with 15. Lawrenny were sitting pretty at 99 for two but lost five wickets quickly and were reduced to 107 for seven. Earlier James Buckle had scored 51 with five fours and three sixes and Christian Phillips 36 with four fours and one six. However their efforts were not wasted as Steve Lewis and Ceri Jones took Lawrenny to a three wickets win in their unbroken eighth wickets partnership. Lewis with 16 not out and Jones 26 not out in an innings which included three huge sixes and one four. Spinner Phil Davies took four for 42 for Neyland and Henry Durant two for 20 including the first two wickets to fall. Narberth travelled to Haverfordwest where the home team reached a total of 184 for nine. Opener Danny Potter top scored with 44 including eight fours before being caught by Harry Allen off the bowling of Ian Hughes and there were other useful contributions from Phil Kirkby with 37 including eight fours, Stephen Phillips with 34 and Karl Rhead with 28. Ben Hughes took four for 40 in his 12 overs and his uncle Ian Hughes took two for 30. Andrew Williams and Marc Hughes put on 41 for the first wicket before Williams was trapped leg before wicket to spinner Clive Tucker. Hughes went on to score 42 in a patient innings and when he was caught by Nick Dyer off the bowling of Tucker, Richard Adams held the innings together with an undefeated knock of 41. He had excellent support from Kyle Quartermaine with 23 and the remaining batsmen did enough to hold out for a draw on 135 for seven. Clive Tucker continued his good start of the season and finished with four for 14 from 11 overs whilst Phil Kirkby took two for 36. Carew totalled a 186 for six at Pembroke as a result of consistent batting down the order. Simon Wood top scored with 38 supported by Tim Hicks with 34, Nick Scourfield with 32, Ian Sefton with 27 and Phil Jones with 22. Rob Weston took two for 33 for Pembroke and all rounder Nigel Phillips two for 37. In reply Pembroke struggled. At one time Pembroke were 29 for six but went on to reach 50 before being bowled out. Darren Thomas appears to be fully fit again and took four for nine and there were two wickets each for Tim Hicks, Rob Scourfield and Rhys Davies. Leigh Jenkins was the only batsman in double figures with ten. Whitland scored 129 for eight in response to a St Ishmaels' total of 166 for five. Jonathan Pawlett top scored for the visitors with 82 not out supported by Dan Howells with 35 not out and Andrew Salter with 25. Skipper Paul Webb took three for 40 for Whitland and then top scored in his side's innings with 36. Newcomer Owain Davies was 29 not out and left hander Paul Davies chipped in with 25. All rounder Andrew Williams took three for 26 for Tish and there were two wickets each for Jonathan Pawlett and James Salter. Burton forced a draw at home to Cresselly by holding on at 138 for nine after Cresselly had scored 190 for six. Ryan Lewis had a big hitting innings of 67 not out with five sixes and four fours and added 67 for the sixth wicket with Richard Harris who scored 37. Andrew Harris played his part in the Cresselly total by scoring 38. James Venables was the pick of the Burton bowlers and took three for 31in 12 overs. He also led the reply with the bat in a fine innings of 52 whilst his brother Jonathan supported with 38. For the visitors Stefan Jenkins took three for 22, Richard Harris three for 30 and left armer Huw Neale two for 24.
Division Two
Carew Seconds totalled 152 for eight at home to Llechryd who won by six wickets. Mathew Phillips scored 41 and Adrian Harries 32 but a spell of five for 31 by James Heneker kept the Carew batsmen in control. Kevin Evans led the Llechryd victory bid with a fine undefeated innings of 85. Fishguard were bowled out by the visitors Lamphey for 125 and would not have scored that many if Jonathan Strawbridge had been caught from one of his three lives. He scored 70 with four sixes and three fours and Jason Oatley took four for 56 with Grant Cole supporting with three for 21. Lamphey were bowled out for a disappointing total of 90 in reply despite the efforts of Paul White with 28 and Jason Oatley with 27. Ben Watson took five for 20 for Fishguard. Simon Stanford is having a fine start of the season for Saundersfoot but was unable to prevent a depleted Saundersfoot team from losing at home to Llangwm who reached a total of 237 for six. Willie Morris top scored with 76 supported by Jonathan Twigg with 43, Ian Phillips with 47 and Andrew Harries with 45. Stanford scored 48 with five fours and three sixes in the Saundersfoot reply and his opening partner Paul Mansbridge with 27 helped in the first wicket partnership of 66. After that the Saundersfoot innings fell away and with John Palmer taking four for ten and Andrew Brock three for 19 Saundersfoot were dismissed for 134. In other division two matches Stackpole were bowled out for 44 at home to Llanrhian who won by seven wickets. Hook were bowled out for 117 by the defending division two champions Haverfordwest Seconds who won by five wickets.
Division Three
Cresselly Seconds are in second place in the table following a big win over Whitland Seconds who were bowled out for 81 chasing a Cresselly total of 144 for five. Simon Allen-Clarke scored 45 for the Cresselly team, Scott Arthur chipped in with 36 and Jacob Davies scored 30. Daniel Newton took three for 47 for the visitors and David Lee two for ten. The Whitland victory bid was stopped in its tracks as Phil James took three for 34, Sion Jenkins took three for 21 and Matthew Lewis three for ten. Kilgetty had their first win of the season in a close encounter with Hundleton who were dismissed for 101 after Kilgetty had been bowled out for114 on a wet track. Graham Jenkins top scored for Kilgetty with 28 as Jonathan Williams took four for 50 for the visitors. None of the Hundleton batsmen reached 20 although four reached double figures as the Kilgetty bowlers pulled the game out of the fire with Anthony Bevan, Rob Beynon and Alan Townsend each picking up three wickets. Phil Sutton scored 110 with 12 fours and four sixes for Neyland Seconds in their total of 206 for eight at Narberth. Fifteen year old Alun Phillips was the pick of the Narberth bowlers with three for 35 and Nick Evans also took three wickets. In reply Narberth Seconds were dismissed for a low total of 69 as Mark Sutton took five for 23. Aron Keane was the pick of the Narberth batsmen in his innings of 32.
Division Four
Manorbier have made a good start to the season and are top of division four following their comprehensive 98 runs win at home to St Florence. Manorbier totalled 141 for nine in the local derby. Most of the batsmen contributed but Keith May was the top scorer with 23 not out. Richard Jones took three for 55 for the visitors and Ben McDonnell took two for 21 and also held three catches. The Saints were bundled out for 43 in reply as Justin Evans took five for 14, Will Davidson two for 19 and spinner Jonathan Hughes two for seven. Lawrenny Seconds reached a total of 164 for six at home to Pembroke Seconds. Phil Williams came out of semi retirement to score 43, Alun Evans scored 30, David Jones 28 not out and there were 46 extras. Jamie Kaijaks took three for 17 and his father Colin top scored with 49 in the Pembroke reply. The visitors were dismissed for 135 although Sean Powell with 35 and skipper Simon Smith-Wrench with 26 did their best to prevent defeat. Alun Evans took four for 43, skipper John Fuller three for 30 and Owen Williams two for 28 for the Lawrenny team. Pembroke Dock Seconds were bowled out for 57 in reply to a St Ishmaels Seconds total of 123 for eight. Phillip Cockburn scored 37 and Rob Thomas 30 for Tish as Jason Coles took four for 22 and all rounder John Davies three for 30 for the visitors. None of the Dock batsmen reached 20 as Michael Cockburn took three for seven and Gareth Cheshire two for 13.
Division Five
Herbrandston Seconds scored a huge total of 249 for seven in their away match at Lamphey. Martin Langton top scored with 50 supported by all rounder Mike Williams with 35 not out. Andrew Dodds was the pick of the Lamphey bowlers and took three for 57. Skipper Andrew Skeels scored 30 in Lamphey's reply but good bowling in particular from Mike Williams who took four for 32 resulted in the Lamphey team being bowled out for 85. Narberth Thirds were away to top of the table Llechryd Seconds and did well to bowl the Llechryd team out for a total of 107. Llechryd skipper Ian Carter top scored with 29 as Neil Rossiter too four for 42 and Sam Mills had a very tight spell of two for 17. Huw Simpkins led the Narberth run chase with 28 but lacked the necessary support as Alex Harding took three for nine and Adam Maehrlein took three for 34. Burton Thirds were unable to raise a team for their visit to play Whitland Thirds away. Carew Thirds were dismissed for 54 in reply to a Camrose and Spittal Second team score of 101 for nine. Rugby player David Maddocks scored 28 for the Camrose and Spittal team as Luke Hicks took for four nine and there were two wickets each for Dan Edwards and Chris Cole. Mark Hicks scored 17 for the visitors in reply but R Ormond took four for eight and David Maddocks three for 18 to destroy the Carew innings. Division Six (a)
Saundersfoot Seconds lost by nine wickets away to Llangwm Thirds after being dismissed for 60 as Filgi took four for 16 and Lyn Rees three for 17. Billy Brandt scored 26 not out as the Llangwm team totalled 64 for one. Hundleton Seconds had a five wickets win at home to Crymych Seconds who were held to 101 for nine. Dyfed Sion scored 30 for the Crymych team as Craig Williams took four for 34. Luke Williams reached 39 not out to steer the Hundleton team to victory.
Division Six (b)
Pembroke Dock Seconds still lead the table despite losing by just one wicket at home to Haverfordwest Fourths who scored 104 for nine in reply to a Dock total 103 for six. Neil Hallett with 19 not out and Steve Alford with 19 got the runs for the Dock as Colin Slater took three for two. Mark Thorpe's innings of 38 was invaluable for the visitors as Steve Alford with four for 11and Neil Hallett with three for 29 came close to pulling off a win for the Dock team. In an exciting game at St Florence, Cresselly Thirds had an exciting two wickets win over Kilgetty Seconds after the visitor had been bowled out for 163. Mike Beynon with 64 and Duane Rossiter with 32 were the leading batsmen for the visitors as David Cheery took five for 16 and Sam Harts helped with two for 45. Harts and Cherry also featured with the bat with knocks of 50 not out and 29 not out respectively in a match winning partnership. Earlier Patrick Elliott set the scene in his innings of 31. Skipper Richard Gwyther took four for 49 and Stuart Allen three for 49 for the Kilgetty team.
