As expected, holders Lamphey retained the Ocky White Pembroke Cricket League division one title on Saturday, although it was without a ball being bowled as bad weather again affected the day's fixture list.

Heavy rain overnight meant that only one game in the top flight got off the ground, the basement battle between Whitland and Burton.

It was a vital match for the Borderers if they were overtake near neighbours Narberth and avoid joining their opposition in the second division next season.

With Narberth having to make do with just five points from a cancelled game, Whitland - 18 points adrift - had to claim 24 points to retain their place in the upper echelons and they just scraped it, having the better of the drawn game.

Batting first, Whitland put on 191 for six with Danny Griffiths showing the way - and just why he was plucked from the ranks of the 2nds - with a controlled 75 which included six 4s and four 6s.

Paul Davies helped things along with 35 while skipper Paul Webb and Mark Lee put on 19 apiece and Colin John added 16.

With such a commanding total, Webb opted to try and skittle out Burton and declared.

Things looked promising as the already demoted side struggled to 79 for 9, with Steve Jones (26) James Scale (16) and Ross Edwards (18) the only ones to trouble the scorers much but then John Scale (13 not out) and Tom Pellowe (2 not out) dug their heels in, putting on another 20 runs to force a draw.

Pick of the Whitland bowlers was Webb, with 4 for 20, David Lee took 2 for 18, Mark Lee 1 for 18 and Matthew Davies 2 for 21.

The winning draw not only ensured Whitland another spell in the First Division and consigned Narberth to join Burton in division two but it also meant Narberth 2nds dropped out of the second division as two teams from the same club cannot feature in the same division.

Hook and Llangwm make the jump to first division while Spittal join Narberth in division three.

Saunderfoot ensured promotion to division two as Third Division champions with a win over Haverfordwest 3rds.

The Town side took first strike and put on a useful 161 for 9 with James Morris top scoring on 37.

Danny James took 3 for 24 for Saundersfoot while Kevin Sykes grabbed 2 for 40 and Chris Parker 2 for 31.

Barry Phillips steered an even course with a dazzling 75 to help Saundersfoot to 162 for 4 with Steve Cook carrying his bat for 39 and Daniel Caine unbeaten on 16.

Also promoted are Llechryd who lost to Lawrenny 2nds in one of the day's only other games.

Fighting hard to avoid relegation Lawrenny bowled out of their skins to restrict title chasing Llechryd to 110 for 9 with Simon Cole taking 3 for 21, John Fuller 3 for 7, Ian Jenkins 2 for 19 and Kenny Small and Iain Williams one apiece.

Chris Vincent (33), Adrian Harries (31) and Iain Williams (21) kept the scoreboard ticking over to take the visitors to 111 for 5 and victory.

The result means that Herbrandston will be joining Haverfordwest 3rds in division four.

Taking their place will be Manorbier, promoted as champions of Division Four, and Maenclochog.

New kids on the block in Division Four will be Lamphey 2nds and Stackpole 2nds, while St. Ishmaels and Hook 2nds are consigned to Division Five.

Carew 3rds and Pembroke Dock move up from Division Six to replace Burton 3rds and and Lechryd 2nds.
