In the last of the quarter-finals in the Harrison-Allen Bowl, Carew had a comfortable 32-run win at Hook to set up the prospect of a mouth-watering semi-final against Cresselly on Thursday, July 17, at Haverfordwest.

It was not all plain sailing at Hook when Carew batted, but experienced all-rounder Aled Davies enlivened proceedings with an excellent innings of 50 to take their total to 133 for 7.

He had good support from Tim Hicks with some well judged runs between the wicket, while wicket-keeper Barry Ansell also played his part with a brisk 12 not out, after opening batsman Nick Scourfield had scored 29 earlier.

For Hook, Wayne Griffiths took 3 for 25 and Mathew Holder 2 for 42.

When Hook batted, they faced Carew skipper Darren Thomas at his best together with the up-and-coming Steve Ive. Each bowler picked up four wickets and Hook were rocking at 43 for 8. However, a back to the wall effort by Andrew Thomas with 31 supported by Mathew Holder with 17 not out, raised the Hook total to 101 all out.

Darren Thomas ended with 4 for 27 and Steve Ive 4 for 26, backed up by Robert Scourfield with 2 for 19.

The standard of the Carew fielding was quite spectacular, with wicket-keeper Barry Ansell pulling off an excellent diving catch, as did Aled Davies backward of square, while Robert Scourfield held on to an excellent running catch in the outfield.
