Ocky White Pembrokeshire County Cricket League leaders, Carew, maintained pole position on Saturday with a thrilling four-run victory over Haverfordwest.

Taking first strike, Carew openers Ian Sefton (52) and Nicky Scourfield (34) put on 97 runs, before Sefton was caught by Stephen Phillips off the bowling of Clive Tucker.

However, the villagers' middle order suffered something of a collapse and, although Adam Chandler chipped in with 31, they found themselves on 163 for 8 at the break.

Tucker was the pick of the Town bowlers, taking 5 for 33.

The Town got off to a solid start, racing to 124 for 3, but solid bowling from the Carew attack managed to skittle the homesters all out for 159, Jonathan Twigg top scoring on 62.

The big hitters of Cresselly maintained their good form, smashing their way to 239 for 6 against Folly Farm Kilgetty.

Simon Cole stroked his way to a convincing 87, which included two 6s and 12 fours, while Richard Harries (40), Julian Arthur (33), Phil Williams (24) and Mark Harris (22 n.o.) kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely.

However, it was not enough to secure victory, Kilgetty digging their heels in to force a draw on 192 for 6, with Simon Wood leading the way with 55.

Another big hitter on the top of his form is Dave Lovell, who grabbed his fourth century in as many weeks to steer reigning champions Lamphey to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Narberth.

Batting first, Narberth set a respectable target of 178 for 9, with David Johns and Mark Hughes leading the way with 57 and 30, respectively.

However, with Lovell at the top of his game, it was never going to be enough, the Lamphey opener digging in to keep the runs coming, before grabbing his ton, and the winning runs, with a whopping six.

Basement battlers Burton are still finding their backs to the wall after an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Lawrenny.

James Scale top scored for Burton with 27 as they struggled to 117 all out in the face of accurate bowling from Robert Williams, who picked up three wickets for just 18 runs in a 12-over spell, which included six maidens.

Simon Cole helped Lawrenny reach their target, and victory, with a controlled knock of 47 not out.

Whitland got off to a solid start against Pembroke, reaching 49 for 1 in 20 overs , but stuttered to 54 for 7 by the 25th.

Dylan Blain (29 n.o.), Paul Davies (23) and Paul Webb (19) stuck to their guns to give the Borderers a more respectable 130 all out, but it was not enough to prevent a two-wicket defeat.
