Many of their regular customers, both local and seasonal, from the last 15 years, will be sad to hear of the closure of the Craft Village at Stepaside, Saundersfoot.
However, some of the craftspeople have relocated to a new venue just a few minutes drive away at Begelly Crafts in the Old Begelly Pottery, Begelly, conveniently located almost opposite Folly Farm.
Begelly Crafts offers a purpose-built all-year-round venue with free on-site parking, free admission and full disabled access.
Visitors can see the craftspeople at work making a variety of locally, hand-crafted quality items. The craftspeople at Begelly are carrying on the tradition, from the Craft Village, of providing visitors with an opportunity to meet and talk with the craftspeople about their work and see how these beautiful items are created.
There are few places in Pembrokeshire where visitors can meet and talk with a variety of craftspeople working together from one venue. No stock is 'bought in' and the aim of the craftspeople is to provide visitors with a selection of handcrafted items that are extremely high quality, yet affordable.
Currently working at Begelly Crafts are a glass painter and engraver, leatherworker, silk painter and pyrographer. There are also examples of woodturning.
Apart from visitors being able to watch the work of the craftspeople during their visit and learn about the techniques, Begelly Crafts also offers workshops and demonstrations (booking is not necessary) by various craftspeople, as well as themed weeks, including Celtic Week and North American Week.
Silk painting workshops are currently every Thursday and Sunday and for details of other workshops and demonstrations, just pop in to Begelly Crafts, open at 10 am to 5 pm, Sunday to Friday, or telephone 07766 065609.
