Welcomed to Shalom House, St. Davids, last week, were members of Creative Fusion, who were delighted to present a cheque for £525 to the charity.

This was the second generous donation from the group, which is made up of craftspeople and artists throughout West Wales. Last year they handed over £500.

Representing Creative Fusion were Elissa Hudson, Haverfordwest, a textile artist who makes handstitched fabric covered boxes and desktop accessories; mother and daughter from Goodwick, textile artist Eleri Duggan, who makes knitted scarves and evening wraps in unusual yarn, and Nia Duggan, of Branwen handmade soaps and cosmetics; and Mandy Hollinger, of Wireworks handcrafted silver jewellery, Saundersfoot. They get together with other craftspeople at fairs in Bosherston, Little Haven, Saundersfoot and St. Davids.

"Because some of us are fairly local and we have also held fairs in St. David's, we knew about Shalom and decided to do some fund-raising," said Eleri.

A percentage of the items they sell has gone towards the Shalom donation and they have also sold Christmas cards on behalf of Shalom.

Since opening, Shalom House - Pembrokeshire's first palliative care respite/daycare centre - has supported around 80 people and their families.

Director of services, Renate Thome, explained: "We have just employed Allyson Burrows as a new nurse to join our other nurse, Helen Price. From May we will be opening a third day, so we will open on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

"We are also planning for short term 24-hour respite care and will shortly be going through the registration process. We hope to run this alongside the palliative daycare facilities. "
