Local tourism operators received a positive boost in business this Easter Bank Holiday weekend as thousands of visitors flocked into Pembrokeshire.

The county's leading tourism association, Pembrokeshire Tourism have announced that a great deal of their members have had an incredible start to the holiday season which has increased optimism amongst business owners.

Maudie Hughes, chief executive of Pembrokeshire Tourism, commented: "The general consensus from members has been very positive this Easter. Across the county, most restaurants and cafes have been filled with customers, hotel and guest houses fully booked and attractions were welcoming more visitors through their gates than expected. As it was an early Easter, businesses were a little apprehensive, but Pembrokeshire has proved itself as a popular destination once again!"

Clare Stansfield, interim director at Oakwood Theme Park, is delighted with the visitor figures on their first weekend of re-opening.

"We have had a fantastic start to the 2015 season at Oakwood since opening last Thursday," she said.

"Our visitor numbers have exceeded expectations and are up by 20 per cent on last year. We are looking forward to a great season again this year."

A number of themed events and activities were organised by operators across Pembrokeshire to improve the visitors offering across the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

It has recently been reported by the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism Ken Skates that the Welsh Tourism industry is in good stead after receiving a 14 per cent increase in overseas visitors in the first nine months of 2014, in addition to an increase in market share of domestic visitors.

The impressive visitor numbers to Pembrokeshire across the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend has brought confidence to businesses for the up and coming season.
