Keep Wales Tidy has unveiled this year’s Green Flag Award winners - the international mark of a quality park or green space.

And Scolton Manor in Pembrokeshire is among the parks and green spaces across Wales that have met the high standards needed to receive the coveted Green Flag Award.

Scolton Manor has been recognised because recognition of its excellent facilities and commitment to delivering great quality green space.

“The Green Flag Award scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK. Scolton Manor achieved its first Green Flag Award in 2008 and has held it annually ever since,” said museums manager Mark Thomas.

“Pembrokeshire County Council is delighted that its country park at Scolton Manor has achieved its 10th consecutive Green Flag Award and is set to fly the flag again this year.”

A series of park events at the site are planned this summer and autumn to celebrate 10 years of the Green Flag Award, and to encourage as many people as possible to visit, discover and enjoy what Scolton Manor has to offer.

In addition to Scolton Manor’s Green Flag Award, five locations in Pembrokeshire received the Green Flag Community Award: They are: Fishguard and Goodwick Green Spaces, Hayscastle Community Woodland, Holyland Community Woodland, Pembroke, Jubilee Park and Nature Trail, East Williamston, Lampeter Velfrey Play Area.

The Green Flag Award programme is delivered in Wales by environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy, with support from Welsh Government.

It is judged by green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, environmental management and community involvement.

Lucy Prisk, Green Flag coordinator at Keep Wales Tidy, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Awards in Wales.

The 201 flags flying are a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers across the country who work tirelessly to maintain Green Flag Award standards.

“I’d encourage everyone to get outdoors this summer and enjoy the incredible parks and green spaces we have on our doorstep.”
