A Pembroke Dock man charged with cultivating and possessing cannabis has been fined in court.

Forty-nine-year-old Mark Reginald Henwood, of Military Road, Pennar, pleaded guilty to producing two small cannabis plants and possessing 89.9 grams of herbal cannabis, and a further charge of possessing 12 grams of the drug, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the first charge related to an incident on April 18, when British Gas workmen carrying out works in the vicinity of Mr. Henwood’s property could smell cannabis.

“Police attended at around 12.15 pm and the defendant invited them into his home. They found two cannabis plants growing. It was not a particularly sophisticated system, just some good lighting and an electric fan,” he explained.

Some 89.9 grams of the drug was also found on the premises and when Mr. Henwood was asked in a police interview what he intended doing with it, he said “smoke it all, it’s beautiful.”

As a result of the matter, officers called at the defendant’s home address again on June 27 and found 12 grams of herbal cannabis in a drawer.

The court heard that the defendant had last appeared in court for drugs offences 20 years ago, for cultivating cannabis and possession.

Magistrates fined Mr. Henwood a total of £280 for the offences and also ordered him to pay costs of £170 and a £30 victim surcharge.

A forfeiture and destruction order was also made for the cannabis.
