TWO Milford Haven parents are £400 worse off after appearing in court.

The cases of two parents - both residents of Hakin but not otherwise connected, each accused of not sending their children to school on a regular basis - were heard and proved in their absence at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 23.

Each defendant was the parent of a child of compulsory school age who was registered at a local school but failed to attend that school regularly - an offence contrary to section 444(1) and (8) of the Education Act 1996.

The informant was Pembrokeshire County Council.

In each case, a fine of £220 was issue, plus court costs of £100 and a surcharge of £88 to fund victim services.
