A thrill-seeking couple from Merthyr Tydfil have got engaged on a white-knuckle ride at Oakwood Theme Park.
Tree surgeon Eldon Powles, 27, decided to pop the question to girlfriend Esme Wheeler, 25, as they hurtled skywards at speeds of up to 70 kph on the local attraction's Bounce ride.
The couple, from Castle Park, have been going out since October last year. However, Esme, who is a children's writer, had no idea that Eldon and their friends had planned the surprise proposal to take place at Oakwood.
"We decided the night before that I'd do it on Bounce. While we were on the ride I got the others on the ground to hold up four big posters with 'Will You Marry Me?' written on them in red paint," said Eldon.
"As the ride started, Es saw the signs and commented: 'Look Eldon, someone's proposing!' It wasn't until she recognised one of our friends that she asked if it was for her!
"Her smile was so perfect and she said: 'Yes' as soon as we got off the ride. We haven't set a date yet, but it will be this side of Christmas!" he added. Oakwood believe this is the first time that anyone has got engaged on Bounce. The ride was the first 'shot and drop' ride in the UK and blasts up to 24 people upwards at speeds of 70 kph.
Oakwood's Stephanie Churchard said: "It may not be everybody's idea of the perfect place to pop the question, but it clearly had the desired effect for Eldon.
"We're all delighted that he chose Oakwood to propose and now we'll just have to wait and hope for an invitation to the wedding itself!
"We'd all like to offer both Eldon and Esme our sincerest congratulations and wish them all the very best for a long and happy life together," she added.
