Pembrokeshire will be playing host to a visit from the Oxford Welsh Male Voice Choir next weekend.

The choir will be giving two concerts; the first along with Tenby Male Voice Choir at St. Andrew's Church, Narberth, on Saturday evening, July 28, which concludes the town's annual Civic Week, and the second takes place the following evening for guests at the Giltar Hotel in Tenby.

The visit is also particularly significant for two members of the choir, one of whom is accompanist, Mrs. Eileen Hayes, who retires from her duties following the Giltar Hotel concert after 60 years of duty.

Mrs. Hayes, who celebrates her 85th birthday on August 6, became involved in the choir 60 years ago when she married a Pembroke Dock gentleman who was a choir member, so it is very poignant that her last concert will be in Pembrokeshire.

Secondly, chairman of the choir, John Prout, was born in Stepaside. Mr. Prout, who left the area at the age of 18 to pursue an engineering career in Liverpool, has lived near Oxford for 28 years and has been chairman of the choir for two years.

"I am looking forward to bringing the choir 'back home' at the end of this month, especially as I attended Narberth Grammar School and have enjoyed many visits to Tenby Golf Club, where I managed to win the individual stableford competition at this year's Golf Week," he said.

The choir will be visiting Tenby from Friday until Sunday.
