Pembrokeshire Under 11s Schools county football sides recently took part in the prestigious HSBC Welsh Primary Schools Finals (formerly the Tom Yeoman Shield) at Aberystwyth.

They competed in a very strong group consisting of Newport, Barry and last year's winners, Flintshire.

In their first pair of matches against Newport the honours were even, with the A side winning 1-0, with Gareth Warlow scoring. The B side lost 1-0, so both teams shared a point each.

The second matches were against powerful Flintshire sides. The A team lost 1-0, while the B side were beaten 3-0.

In their last matches they played Barry. The A side lost 1-0, but the B side won 3-0 in a thrilling game. The three-goal blitz came in the second-half, with the goals being scored by Declan Carroll, Matthew Richards and Nathan Roach. Three points to Pembs.

The final league table was as follows: Flintshire 7 pts.; Barry 4; Pembrokeshire 4; Newport 1.

Pembs. missed out on a place in the semi-final by one goal difference.

Although disappointed, the boys should be really proud of the way they performed amongst the best county sides in Wales.
