Visitors to the Countryside and Conservation Area of this year's Pembrokeshire County Show dug deep to raise money for the meningitis charity appeal.

Organised by axeman Morris Jones - part of the Welsh axe team, and a regular visitor to the show - the appeal is raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, and is a subject close to heart for Morris.

"I live in a very close-knit community, which was strongly affected by the death of a local child who was struck down in a matter of hours by meningitis," explained Morris.

"It is hoped that through the appeal, including fund-raising at events such as the Pembrokeshire Show, that we will be able to contribute to research into the illness, and also raise awareness of it at the same time. The generosity of those attending the show and donating to the appeal was very much appreciated."

Over £900 was collected for the charity during the three days of the show, including £60 raised in an auction for a wooden owl carved with a chainsaw.
