The events, which will include a bring and buy/jumble sale from 2 pm and a variety show in the evening, are being organised by town councillor, John Griffiths, who visited the orphanage in Phuket during a visit to the country a number of years ago. "The orphanage normally has under 100 children, but since the tidal wave disaster, there are around 1,000," Clr. Griffiths told the Observer. "They are under extreme pressure and as I remember going there I thought it would be nice to raise money to help them," he continued. "I will be going out there myself in February, so I will be able to hand over the money raised directly," he added. The variety show will be staged at 7.30 pm and will include performances by local artistes and musicians, as well as comedy sketches. There will also be a raffle and Clr. Griffiths is keen to hear from any local business who would like to donate a prize. Anyone, meanwhile, with donations for the bring and buy/jumble sale is asked to hand them in at the De Valence.
