Pembrokeshire has had its best-ever performance at the 'Oscars' of the Welsh food and drink industry.

The prestigious Wales the True Taste Food and Drink Awards 2011 at Llandudno last Thursday saw the county scoop 13 gold and silver awards.

Kate Morgan, Pembrokeshire County Council food officer, congratulated all the award-winners and praised the high quality of produce available in the county.

"To receive seven gold awards and six silver awards is absolutely amazing," she said. "It's a fantastic achievement for Pembrokeshire and shows that the quality of our local food and drink is improving all the time.

She added: "What was lovely was a lot of the winning producers are suppliers to the winning businesses and establishments.

"We are fortunate to have this fantastic range of produce in the county which is a major part of the visitor experience. Pembrokeshire really is on the map now when it comes to food tourism."

Justin Scale, of Capestone Organic Poultry Ltd, which won silver in the Export Achievement category, said; "It was a very good evening for Pembrokeshire, with people winning lots of awards right across the board."

One company - Homemade Country Preserves from Clarbeston Road, won both the gold and silver awards in the special dietary options category.

The winners were: Fishmonger - Claws Shellfish, Johnston (gold); Fresh Fish and Seafood - Welsh Seafoods Ltd, The Docks, Milford Haven: (gold for their brill); Restaurants/Hotels (with rooms) - The Grove, Narberth (gold); Restaurants (no rooms) - Cwtch, St. Davids (gold); Deli/ Speciality Stores - Ultracomida Ltd, Narberth (gold); Vegetables - Puffin Produce Ltd, Haverfordwest (gold for their Rudolph potato); Special Dietary Options - Homemade Country Preserves, Clarbeston Road: (gold for their no-added sugar raspberry preserve); Special Dietary Options - Homemade Country Preserves, Clarbeston Road: (silver for their no-added sugar damson preserve); Online Retailer of the Year - Pembrokeshire Produce Direct, Bethesda (silver); Poultry and Game - Bethesda Farm and Coffee Shop, Bethesda, Narberth (silver for their garlic and smoked bacon chicken supreme); Cheese: Large Producer - First Milk, Haverfordwest (silver for Pembrokeshire Mature); Other Speciality Foods - Pennsylvania Farm Free-Range Eggs, Crundale (silver for their Free-Range Duck Eggs); Welsh Export Achievement - Capestone Organic Poultry Ltd, Walwyns Castle, Haverfordwest (silver).
