As a result of a combination of rain and wet pitches, 90 per cent of the matches in the Antur Insurance Services Pembroke County Cricket League either failed to start or were abandoned. Only three of the scheduled 30 matches ended in a definite result as 11 failed to start and 16 were abandoned.
Division One
Second placed St. Ishmaels missed out on a golden opportunity to steal a march on their championship rivals after doing all of the hard work and dismissing Lawrenny for 68. Skipper Steve Lewis scored 21 not out for Lawrenny and the only other batsmen in double figures were James Phillips with 12 and Andrew Cole with 11. Australian Stewart Kimpton had what could have been match winning figures of 7 for 17, supported by all-rounder Andrew Williams, who took 2 for 8. When rain called a halt to proceedings, Tish were 50 for 1 in reply, with Andrew Salter 27 not out and Andrew Pawlett four not out. Earlier, James Salter fell to the bowling of Steve Lewis for 10. Although Narberth picked up more points than the visitors Haverfordwest, the town remain top of Division One with a lead of 26 points over second placed Tish. In the match at Narberth, the home team recovered from being 57 for 6 to reach 134 for 7 when the match was abandoned. Kyle Quartermaine led the fightback with an undefeated 31 from 64 deliveries, Marc Hughes chipped in with 20 and Richard Howell with 16 not out. Earlier, Tom Richards with 18 and Ian Hughes with 12 offered the main resistance to the opening attack of Phil Kirkby and David Davies, who finished with figures of 3 for 37 and 3 for 32, respectively. Despite the weather, the wicket at Cresselly was a real belter and Cresselly had scored 216 for five in 34 overs against the visitors Whitland, when skipper Lyn Richards declared in an attempt to defeat the on-coming rain. Unfortunately, no further play was possible in what could have been an interesting tussle. Phil Williams continued his rich vein of form and had scored 81, including 12 fours, before he was bowled by Paul Webb. Williams enjoyed a fruitful partnership of 100 for the second wicket with Simon Cole, who was run out for 55, an innings which included two 6s and nine 4s. The Whitland bowlers had little respite as Adam Chandler scored 30 before being trapped leg before wicket by Iestyn Scourfield, who took 3 for 66, and Damian Arthur was 16 not out. Carew found run scoring difficult a few miles down the road in their home match against Neyland and had only reached 88 for 3 off 34 overs when the match was abandoned. Phil Jones was 29 not out and Nick Scourfield 24 not out after openers Brian Hall and Barry Evans had both been dismissed for 14. Patrick Hannon took 3 for 14 for the visitors. Burton scored 165 for 6 at Llangwm. Mike Venables led the run scoring with 39, Jonathan Venables scored 37 and the pair were backed up by James Scale and Chris Campbell, who both scored 28. For Llangwm, Andrew Brock took 2 for 18, Darren Brick 2 for 30 and Chris Inward 2 for 53. Llangwm had made good progress in reply and were 48 without loss after 11 overs. Jonathan Twigg was undefeated on 32 and William Beresford scored 15. Division Two
Saundersfoot scored 181 for 4 off 31.4 overs at home to Carew Seconds. James Caine, who is having a terrific season, top scored with 79, an innings which included a six and 12 fours. Caine was supported by Simon Stanford with 28 and Steve Cook with 22. The two openers put on 42 for the first wicket and Paul Mansbridge scored 27. Rob Whitfield took 2 for 35 for the visitors. Two experienced players, Nigel Phillips and Kevin Jenkins, had put Pembroke into a strong position in their away match against Haverfordwest Seconds. Spinner Phillips took 5 for 29 and skipper Jenkins 3 for 16 as the Haverfordwest team were dismissed for 132 in 40 overs. Mikey Jones with 41, Andrew Phillips with 32 and Mark Cross with 28 were the only batsmen to look at all comfortable. There was no play at all in the matches between Llechryd and Johnston and Herbrandston at home to Hook. At Llanrhian, Ben Jones had scored half of his team's runs with 48 as the match ended with the home team 97 for 6 off 37 overs at home to Fishguard. Nigel Morgan took 2 for 20 for the visitors.
Division Three
Cresselly Seconds have moved up to second place in the table following their five wickets win away to Hundleton who were held to a total of 110 for 9. The Cresselly victory bid was led by opening batsman Julian Arthur, who dominated the run scoring with an undefeated attacking innings of 77, which included four 6s and six 4s. The next highest scorer was Mathew Lewis with 12 not out. Nigel Arthur took 4 for 43 for Hundleton. Prior to the tea interval, Hundleton had reached a total of 110 for 9. Jonathan Williams top scored with 26, including four 4s, supported by Steve Williams with 20 and Liam Williams with 14 not out. Six Cresselly bowlers picked up at least one wicket and three had two wickets each. Spinner Nick Davies took 2 for 15, young Sam Harts had figures of 2 for 19 and left arm seamer Mathew Lewis had 2 for 23. Burton Seconds built up a sizeable total of 183 for 5 at home to Pembroke Dock. Neville Davies top scored with 61, supported by Roger Burns with 60 not out. In reply, the Dock had got to 79 for 3 when the rain fell, with Steve Hartley on 30 not out as he continued the good work of Mohammad Khan who had earlier scored 26. Lamphey scored 181 for 8 at home to Kilgetty. Nic Johnson top scored with 35, including six 4s, before giving a return catch to Richard Gwyther, who had an excellent 6 for 45 spell to reward his accuracy. Six other Lamphey batsmen reached double figures, with Grant Cole 36 not out, Haydn Cole 25 not out, backed up by Jason Oatley with 19, Peter McGilloway with 16, Hywel Gibbs with 15, Andrew Skeels with 14 and James Skeels with 11. Kilgetty only had time to score three without loss before the match was abandoned. No play was possible in the game between Whitland Seconds and Stackpole.
Division Four
In a match reduced to 35 overs per side, Manorbier totalled 132 for 9 away to Neyland Seconds. Steve Flook had the major contribution with 36, backed up by Mark Meyrick with 25 not out and Jonathan Hughes with 20. Gareth Virgo took 4 for 39 for the Neyland team who had reached 52 for 1 off 10 overs. Gregg Miller top scored with a brisk innings of 36. Narberth Seconds were dismissed for 117 away to Haverfordwest Thirds. Skipper Chris Richards led the run scoring with a determined innings of 30, Brinley Toms concentrated on boundaries by hitting four 4s and a six in his innings of 25 and Nathan Lloyd provided support with 20. Richard Davies took 5 for 28 for Haverfordwest Thirds, who got to 33 for 1 before the rains came, with Julian James 22 not out.
Division Five
Carew Thirds scored 140 for 8 at home to Narberth Thirds in a match reduced to 25 overs per team. At the new Tony Scourfield Memorial Ground, Mark Hicks led the run scoring with 38, including six 4s, Chris Cole contributed 25 and Haydn Shapcott 23. Twelve-year-old Jordan Howell took 3 for 27 for the visitors and Geraint Nicholas 2 for 37. In reply, Narberth Thirds' skipper Clive Jones was dismissed on 10 and Huw Simpkins was 12 not out when the game came to a halt after 13 overs with the visitors 33 for 1. Kerry Waters picked up the solitary wicket for the Carew team. Whitland Thirds were unable to play their home match against Cresselly Thirds and the game between St Florence and the visitors Llechryd Seconds was another victim of the weather.
Division Six
Division Six leaders Saundersfoot Seconds chased leather for most of the afternoon against Llangwm Thirds who were playing on the postage stamp ground in Burton. Hugh Brock blasted 88, Mark Davies scored 42 and Lyn Rees 25. Grant Hardy took 4 for 61 for the visitors and Sam Butler 2 for 33. In reply, the visitors got to 17 for 1 off four overs. Pembroke Dock Seconds might have been glad to see the rain fall when the total was 25 for 4 after 16 overs at home to Llanrhian Thirds, who scored 147 for 8. Noel Lyons led the run scoring for the visitors with 38 and Gary Reynolds also contributed 35. Reynolds was on form with the ball as he had taken three of the four wickets to fall at a personal cost of 10 runs. Hundleton Seconds were dismissed for 51 away to Stackpole Seconds. Carl John top scored with 16 as Alex Wilkes took 2 for six and Sam Evans 2 for 14. Carl John took 2 for 30 when Stackpole Seconds replied, but could not prevent the home team from winning by seven wickets upon reaching 53 for 3. Daniel James was the leading batsman with 16. The matches between Fishguard Seconds and Lamphey Seconds and Kilgetty Seconds and Haverfordwest Fourths were called off without a ball being bowled.
