Division One
Cresselly skipper Lyn Richards conceded that his team were outplayed by Lawrenny in the Division One local derby. Lawrenny won by six wickets after holding a strong Cresselly batting line up to a total of 159 for 7. Opener Phil Williams was in form again with a top quality innings of 58 before he gave a return catch to all-rounder Ian Jenkins. Support came in the main from two experienced players Richard Harris with 26 not out and Lyn Richards with 24. Spinner Ian Jenkins took 2 for 30, paceman Ceri Jones 2 for 27 and opening bowler Rob Williams 2 for 53. Lawrenny were in a spot of bother at 29 for 4, but James Buckle and Ian Jenkins produced a match- winning unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 133 to take the visitors to a total of 162 for 4. Buckle finished with 82 not out with 12 fours and a six and Jenkins with 60 not out, including 10 fours. Stefan Jenkins took 3 for 35 in his 10 overs for Cresselly. After the match, Lawrenny skipper Steve Lewis was presented with the Mrs. Elsie Cole Memorial Cup by Mr. Maurice Cole for winning the local derby. The cup will be presented each year to the winning team when league matches are played between the two clubs at the Cresselly ground. Haverfordwest were unable to finish off the Burton innings, but with St. Ishmaels losing, the town picked up enough draw points to stay on top of Division One. Haverfordwest declared after reaching 198 for 6 with one over to spare at Burton. Danny Potter scored 67 with 12 fours and featured in a third wicket partnership of 65, with Stephen Phillips who scored 35. Adam James also scored 35 and Phil Kirkby supported with 30. James Venables took 3 for 43 for Burton and Joe Dixon 2 for 25. Burton salvaged a draw at 134 for 9. Richard Hayman led the resistance with 31, backed up by Mike Venables with 26 and James Venables with 22. Clive Tucker took 4 for 4 in six overs of accurate off spin, skipper Nick Dyer took 2 for 31 and David Davies 2 for 34. Neyland won by six wickets at home to St. Ishmaels after restricting the defending Division One champions to a total of 145 for 6. Skipper Peter Bradshaw and Jonathan Pawlett had a second wicket partnership of 75. Bradshaw scored 51 before being run out and Pawlett 44. There was little support from the remaining batsmen apart form Andrew Williams with 19. Skipper Andrew Miller had a determined innings of 55 before retiring hurt, when Neyland responded Phil Sutton provided the support with an excellent undefeated 44 and there were 20 extras. James Salter was the pick of the Tish bowlers with 2 for 19. Carew have moved up one place in the table following their comprehensive 99 runs win at home to Narberth who were bowled out for 84 in reply to a Carew total of 183 for 6. Simon Wood continued his good form with 48 for Carew, supported by Nick Scourfield with a steadfast innings of 35 and Phil Jones with 31 not out from 27 deliveries. Ian Hughes bowling left arm seam up took 2 for 36 and Ben Hughes 2 for 33. Another member of the Hughes family, Marc did his best to hold the Narberth innings together with a fighting knock of 34 from 91 deliveries, but had little support apart from Ben Hughes with 17 and Richard Howell with 12. All-rounder Tim Hicks took 4 for 18 in 10 overs, 15-year-old leg spinner Ceri Brace tested all the batsmen in his probing 3 for 11 spell from 11 overs and Simon Wood took 3 for 22. At Whitland, a late boost by the lower order, including skipper Mark Lee with 19, enabled Whitland to reach 172 for 8 at home to Llangwm. Left-hander Paul Davies had an attractive innings of 66, with 10 fours and the other support was provided by opener David Lee with 19. Darren Brick took 2 for 27 in 12 tight overs for Llangwm, Richard Brock took 2 for 49 and Chris Inward 2 for 57. The visitors should have made more of an opening partnership of 102 between William Beresford and Jonathan Twigg. The left-handed Beresford scored 76 with two sixes and 10 fours and Twigg scored 30 when the partnership was broken after 34 overs. Skipper Andrew Harries got 11 and when the innings closed on a total of 165 for 5, Chris Inward was 14 not out and Darren Brick 10 not out. All-rounder Paul Webb posed most problems for the Llangwm batsmen in his 4 for 42 spell from 10 overs.
Division Two
After their surprise defeat at Fishguard the previous week, Saundersfoot got back to winning ways at Haverfordwest by bowling out Haverfordwest Seconds for 84 in reply to a Saundersfoot total of 202 for 7. As a result, Saundersfoot have moved up to second place in the table. James Caine set the scene with 50, backed up by Simon Stanford with 43, Ian Poole with 40 not out and Steve Cole with 35. Josh Wilment took 3 for 38 and Simon Tremaine 3 for 39. Wilment also top scored with 17, backed up by Mike Jones with 16. However, the Haverfordwest batsmen had few answers to the Saundersfoot bowling attack as Danny Caine took 3 for 24, Kevin Sykes 3 for 34 and David Dunfee 2 for eight. Carew Seconds bowled out Fishguard for 83, with three balls of the match remaining in reply to a Carew Seconds total of 134 for 9. Adrian Harries top scored for the visitors with 39, all-rounder Nick Cope scored 30 and Darren Thomas 28. For Fishguard, Nigel Morgan took 3 for 11, Rhys Dalling 2 for 21 and Rob Couzens 2 for 38. The Fishguard innings never really got going. However, they did recover from 39 for 7 to reach 83, principally through the efforts of opener Jonathan Strawbridge with 23 and wicket keeper Vaughan Davies with 17. Darren Thomas had an incisive spell of 6 for 22, Nick Cope took 2 for 4 and Mathew Phillips 2 for 19. Pembroke have slipped down to third place in the table after being bowled out for 90 at home to Herbrandston who recovered from 92 for 7 to reach 159 for 9. Nathan Banner top scored with 46, supported by Jonty Bennett with 45 and Kristan Bennett with 25. Spinner Nigel Phillips took 3 for 27, Gwyn Griffiths 2 for 11, Danny Williams 2 for 30 and Shaun Powell 2 for 21. Rob Weston batted well for his innings of 28 and Phil Hay chipped in with 16, but wickets tumbled as Steve Bennett took 5 for 22, Kristan Bennett 3 for 17 and Nathan Banner 2 for 12. Pembroke's batsmen may have been off-form on Saturday, but the car boot sale held every Friday at 12 noon is proving to be a big hit both with the club, traders and members of the public. Division Two leaders Hook had a comfortable win at home to Johnston after bowling out the visitors for 142 in response to a Hook total of 185. Llanrhian had an eight wickets win at home to bottom of the table Llechryd who were bowled out for 71.
Division Three
Kilgetty had a seven wickets win away to Burton Seconds who were held to 148 for 9. Neville Davies with 60 was the leading Burton batsman, supported by John Griffiths with 20 and Richard Jones with 15. For Kilgetty, Alan Townsend took 2 for 29, Richard Prout 2 for 32 and Anthony Bevan 2 for 33. The bulk of the Kilgetty runs came from a first wicket partnership of 124 between Jake Marsh and Grant James. James was run out for 49 and Marsh went on to score 66 before being caught by Chris Campbell off the bowling of John Griffiths after hitting seven fours. Lamphey were sitting pretty at the tea interval after bowling out the visitors Whitland Seconds for 100. Lamphey skipper Paul White had a day to remember after taking 8 for 57, with his leg spinners supported by Jason Oatley with 2 for 21. Meyrick Rowlands and Shane Morgan with 17 apiece were the leading run scorers for the visitors. Although skipper Paul White carried his bat for 28 not out, when his opening partner Nick Johnson dismissed for 29, it triggered a Lamphey collapse and the visitors were able to win by 16 runs. Simon Davies took 3 for 7, Carl Smith 3 for 31 and Mathew Webb 2 for 22. Hundleton held on for a draw at 120 for 7 away to St. Ishmaels Seconds who scored 190 for 6. Jonathan Williams with 51 and Niall Smith with 20 not out had the bulk of the runs for the visitors as Philip Cockburn took 2 for 11, Scott Griffiths 2 for 17 and Lenny Rees 2 for 34. For the Tish team, Philip Cockburn scored 53, David Proctor backed up with 42, Robert Cockburn scored 33, Daniel Flynn 21 and Niall Smith 20 not out. Jonathan Williams took 3 for 53 for Hundleton and Riaan Strydom 3 for 59. Cresselly Seconds were bowled out for 123 after being 100 for 2 away to Pembroke Dock, with Scott Arthur scoring 59 and Geraint Williams 23 to lose by five runs. Steve Alford with 4 for 10 and Luke Murray with 3 for 26 were the leading wicket takers for the Dock. Before the tea interval, Peter Kingdom and Steve Hartley both scored 35 in the Dock innings of 128 for 9 as Mathew Lewis took 6 for 38 for the visitors.
Division Four
Lawrenny Seconds were bowled out for 99 at home to Division Four leaders Crymych who had posted a total of 132 for 8. Osian Wyn top scored with 33, Jacob Lloyd scored 23 not out, Eurig Lewis had a brisk 21 and Rob Nicholas 20. Stephen Rees took 5 for 33 for the Lawrenny team. The experienced Barry Phillips scored 42 with nine fours and was the only Lawrenny batsman in double figures as Murray Briggs took 3 for 12, Dai Jenkins 3 for 21 and Eurig Lewis 2 for 38. Manorbier just missed out on what would have been their first win of the season chasing a Llangwm Seconds total of 169 for 5. Alastair Platten scored 65 and Mathew Kiff 54 as Justin Evans took 4 for 39 for the visitors. When Manorbier replied, Justin Evans was in the runs as well with 33, both Steve Flook and Keith May scored 24, but the Manorbier reply closed on 168 for 8, tantalisingly close to the club's first win of the season. Mathew Kiff took 3 for 15 and Chris Thomas 2 for 37. Pembroke Seconds had an excellent eight wickets win away to Johnston Seconds after restricting the whole team to 137 for 8. Johnston Seconds were 49 for 1, but lost five wickets in the last four overs after Shaun Jones had scored 41 and Steve James 21. Seventeen-year-old Sam Williams took 6 for 29 for the visitors, backed up by Charlie Allen with 2 for 28. Tim Gould and 13-year-old Jonathan Rogers put on 86 vital runs for the second wicket. When Jonathan Rogers was out for 21, his father Paul scored 24 not out and with Tim Gould having 68 not out with 10 fours, Pembroke Seconds reached a winning total of 138 for 2. Narberth Seconds had the better of a game at home to Llanrhian Seconds who scored 165 for 2 in reply to a Narberth total of 177 for 8. Mathew Davies scored 79 of the runs for the Narberth team, supported by Brinley Toms with 22 and Gary Hughes with 21 not out. Former Glamorgan spinner David Lewis took 4 for 45 for the visitors. Although R. V. Jones scored 59 not out, Russell Watkins 45 and Richard Reed 27, the visitors were unable to score quickly enough to get past the Narberth total.
Division Five
Narberth Thirds were bowled out for 68 after the visitors and Division Five leaders Hook Seconds had totalled 117 for 5. William Gronwy scored 39 not out for Hook Seconds, backed up by Gareth Herberg with 20. Narberth chairman Huw Simpkins took 3 for 16. When Narberth replied, Jonathan Morse had a six and two fours in his defiant innings of 27, but the only other two batsmen in double figures were Clive Jones and Nathan Lloyd who both scored 11. For the visitors, Mathew Holder took 5 for 10, Chris Holder 3 for 13 and Jack Britton 2 for 16. Whitland Thirds had a six wickets win away to Carew Thirds after bowling out the home team for 64 on the impressive Tony Scourfield ground. James Hinchcliffe with 12, Rob Whitfield with 11 and Dominic Hicks with 10 were the only Carew batsmen in double figures, as Ashley took 4 for 17, Barry Rees 3 for 13 and Robert Merriman 2 for 10. Nathan Evans was 27 not out, supported by Gwyn Phillips with 11 not out and Darren Rees with 11, as Whitland got to 67 for 4. Robert Whitfield was the most penetrative of the Carew bowlers with 3 for 23. Cresselly Thirds made the long journey north to Llechryd and were dismissed for 103 in reply to a home team total of 155 all out. The experienced Steve Welch top scored for Llechryd with 50, backed up by Dewi Davies with 26 and Derek Steans with 23. All-rounder Steve Davies took 6 for 23 for the visitors. He also top scored in the Cresselly reply with 31 supported by young Alex Bayley with 28 not out. Jithin Philip took 4 for 10, John Quinney 3 for 15 and Ronnie Radcliff 3 for 4. In a close finish at St. Florence, the visitors Camrose and Spittal Seconds reached 72 for 8 to win the match after bowling out the Saints for 70. Two experienced players had the bulk of the runs for St. Florence with Peter Hall scoring 30 and Tommy Roberts 19. Rob John took 4 for 15, including a hat-trick for Camrose and Spittal Seconds and Gelly James took 4 for 7. When the visitors replied, David Maddocks top scored with 13 as Tommy Roberts took 4 for 12 and Geraint Lewis 2 for 21.
Division Six Division Six leaders St. Florence Seconds had a big win at home to Llanrhian Thirds who were dismissed for 54 in reply to a Saundersfoot total of 179 for 8. The visitors had little answer to the bowling of Chris Hawkes with 3 for 0, Andrew Evans with 2 for 10 and Grant Hardy with 2 for 27. Thirteen-year-old Sam Butler opened the Saundersfoot innings and had a fine knock of 52 supported by Paul Morris with 32, Toby Smith with 23 and 13-year-old Sam Franklin with 23 not out. Lamphey Seconds held on for a draw at 109 for 9 away to Crymych Seconds who scored 195 for 7. Seventeen-year-old Iolo Jones scored 59 for the Crymych team, supported by Craig Nightingale with 45 and James Thomas with 22 not out. Skipper Andrew Skeels took 4 for 45 with his left arm spinners for the Lamphey team, backed up by Chris Forth with 2 for 30. Fifteen-year-old James Scales top scored for Lamphey in their reply with 21, while for Crymych Seconds, David Sayers took 3 for 18 and Marc Thomas 3 for 25. Kilgetty Seconds were bowled out for 87 away to Llangwm Thirds despite the efforts of young Elliot Morrison with 19 and Barry Ormond with 18. Morrison has cricket in his veins as he is the grandson of former Kilgetty captain Billy Evans. For Llangwm Thirds, Lyn Rees took 3 for 7, Mark Davies 3 for 13 and Dan Hughes 2 for 21. Llangwm were made to fight for the runs as Barry Ormond took 4 for 36, but knocks of 22 from Mark Davies and 15 by Graham Elliot enabled the Llangwm team to reach a winning score of 91 for 7. Steve Williams with 19 not out took Hundleton Seconds to a total of 154 for 1 to register a nine wickets win against Haverfordwest Fourths who had reached 152 for 9 before the tea interval. Mark Hicks top scored top scored with 61 as Liam Williams took 4 for 15 for Hundleton Seconds.
