Division One
There is no change at the top in Division One of the Imperial Garages Pembroke County Cricket League as St. Ishmaels remain in pole position following a comfortable six wickets win at home to Whitland. Tish fielded with 10 players as Andrew Williams was late arriving because of his work commitments. Nevertheless the visitors were bowled out for 123. Left handers Paul Webb and Paul Davies fell early on but opener Jonathan Thomas scored 23, Raff Williams 26, Matthew Davies 21 and Kevin Pearce 17. The Tish spinners took six of the wickets as Daniel Flynn finished with four for 41 and young Andrew Salter two for 25. Opening bowler Jamie Salter took two for 31. An opening partnership of 71 between skipper Peter Bradshaw who scored 45 and Andrew Salter who scored 30 before being stumped by Kevin Pearce off the bowling of Matthew Davies provided the platform for the Tish win. James Salter scored 21 not out and all rounder Andrew Williams 12 not out as Tish reached a winning total of 124 for four. Matthew Davies took three for 30 for the visitors. Carew dominated the drawn match at home to Pembroke and remain in second place, just six points behind the league leaders. Nick Scourfield has given notice that he is back to his best form recently and Carew got off to an excellent start with an opening partnership of 92 between Scourfield and Sefton. It was ended when Sefton was caught by Dan Scourfield off the bowling of Kevin Jenkins after scoring 51 with one six and seven fours. Nick Scourfield went on to score 100 not out with seven fours and two sixes and he received good support from Simon Wood with 40 and Wayne Cannon with 32. The visitors also had a solid stand as Phil Stephens and Daniel Scourfield put on 57 for the first wicket. Scourfield was out first, caught by Brian Hall off the bowling of Rob Scourfield after hitting three sixes and five fours. His dismissal triggered off two further wickets in quick succession as Rob Scourfield the Carew Captain had a hat-trick as he trapped both Phil Stephens and Phil Hay leg before wicket. Stephens had scored 37 with five fours. The only other two batsmen in double figures were skipper Barry Evans with 16 and Hugh Davies with 13. Perry Phillips and Anton John were together at the end for Pembroke and Phillips blocked out the last over from Rob Scourfield to secure a draw as Pembroke reached 150 for nine in reply to a Carew total of 263 for four declared. Third placed Cresselly had an eight wickets win at home to Burton who were dismissed for 125. Mike Venables scored 42 with six fours before being bowled by Ryan Lewis and Richard Scriven was 30 not out. His brother Will scored 12 before being run out and James Venables 11. In an exciting match at Lawrenny the visitors Neyland had a dramatic three wickets win with one ball of the match remaining with a total of 130 for seven chasing a Lawrenny total of 129 all out. James Buckle top scored for Lawrenny with 36 before being caught by Nicholas Kooman off the bowling of leg spinner Gary Lloyd. Simon Cole scored 22 and Ceri Jones 14 as the Neyland bowlers kept a tight grip on proceedings. Gary Lloyd finished with three for 30; Henry Durant took two for 29, Patrick Cannon two for 47 and Andrew Miller two for two. It was anybody's game until an unbroken eighth- wicket partnership of 51 between Gareth Virgo and Sean Hannon. Virgo scored 23 not out and Hannon 20 not out as excitement mounted before the visitors won. Earlier Durant followed up his bowling to score 39 with six fours. Lawrenny skipper Steve Lewis took three for 20 and spinner Ian Jenkins two for 26. Defending champions Haverfordwest moved above Lawrenny in the table into fourth position following a close two wickets win away to Narberth. Batting at number five Mike Scale held the Narberth innings together with a fighting innings of 41 from 70 balls, which included five fours and one six. Opener Marc Hughes scored 18 and the only other batsman in double figures was Ollie Cook with 10. Clive Tucker did most of the damage for the visitors as he took four for 26 in 12 overs of off spin and David Davies took the last two wickets in quick succession, both leg before wicket to finish with two for 12. Haverfordwest were forced to struggle in reply with excellent bowling from Ollie Cook, Ben Hughes and Ben Quartermaine. Carew Seconds recovered from being 25 for six to reach 149 for eight away to Llechryd. Six wickets had fallen for the low total when Nick Cope was dropped before scoring a run. The young player went on to score a quality innings of 52 with two sixes and three fours and featured in seventh wicket partnership of 109 with Gerald Hicks to set up a remarkable win for the visitors. The experienced Hicks scored 50 not out with five fours. Llechryd made an effort to go for the runs and then appeared to be settling for a draw when they fell behind the clock. However four wickets fell in the space of two overs and Llechryd were bowled out for 120 to give the visitors a win by 29 runs. Steve Curran had taken two for 22 and James Heneker three for 34 before the tea interval. Opener Pete McGilloway dropped anchor to score 47 with five fours before he gave a return catch to Fishguard skipper Nigel Morgan. He was helped initially by Gareth Nicholas who scored 19 before being bowled by Morgan and then by Lamphey skipper Hywel Gibbs who scored 20 as the pair figured in the fourth wicket partnership of 54 to give Lamphey their second win of the season. Saundersfoot slumped to defeat away to Division Two leaders Llangwm and were bowled out for 74 to lose by 96 runs after Llangwm had been dismissed for 170. Kilgetty held on for a draw at 120 for seven away to Hundleton who had earlier totalled 146 for nine. Opener Morgan Allen scored 60 for Hundleton before being caught by Mike Beynon off the bowling of Anthony Bevan. All rounder Riaan Strydom scored 36 before being bowled by Rob Beynon after hitting five fours and one six and John Tysoe scored 11. Rob Beynon was the leading wicket taker for the visitors with five for 26 in 11 overs supported by Anthony Bevan with two for 38. Kilgetty opener Craig Hurst batted well in his innings of 44 before being bowled by Riaan Strydom and although the supporting batsmen chipped in it was not with enough runs to give the visitors the victory. Alan Townsend was 18 not out and earlier both Rob Beynon and skipper Allen Hurst had scored 13. For Hundleton Richard Allen took three for 23, Danny Bebbington two for 24 and Riaan Strydom two for 27. A depleted Narberth Seconds team did well to reach 132 for six away to Neyland Seconds. Division Four
Division Four leaders Pembroke Dock won by seven wickets at home to St Ishmael Seconds who were bowled out for 112 despite the effort of Brendan Moon who scored 40. Jason Coles who took four for 14 and Neil Hallett with two for 27 did the damage. All rounder John Davies scored 58 not out and Jamie White 34 not out as the Dock cruised to 115 for three. Student Ben Cole celebrated his return to Lawrenny by taking eight for 25 as Pembroke Seconds were bowled out for 46 in reply to a Lawrenny Seconds total of 162 for six. Earlier Lawrenny Seconds scored 162 for six. Skipper John Fuller scored 48 and Barry Phillips had 41 not out with two sixes and three fours backed up by his son James who scored 29. For the Pembroke team Paul Rogers took three for 51 and Charlie Allen two for 50. In the third game of the season between St Florence and Manorbier, the visitors Manorbier came away with the spoils to make it three on the trot. This was largely due to the batting of Paul Oeppen and the bowling of Jeremy Smith. Manorbier started slowly against accurate bowling from Tommy Roberts and Richard Jones who made scoring difficult. Having lost his opening partner early, Oeppen took toll of the few loose deliveries available to score 45. When he was out, Jonathan Hughes maintained the momentum with a typical aggressive innings of 26 which included two sixes and two fours. But from 88 for two, Manorbier collapsed to 117 all out, thanks to a good all-round bowling performance from the Saints attack and two run- outs. Neil Powling's dogged innings of 20 was the only other contribution of note. Peter Hall took three for 30, Tommy Roberts two for 29 and Richard Jones two for 39. St Florence started well in reply, keeping ahead of the required scoring rate, but once the first wicket partnership of 31 was broken, wickets were lost at regular intervals. Stephen Hughes top scored with 23 but none of the other Saints batsmen made double figures except for the skipper Steve Wilkins who remained undefeated on 13 as St Florence were bowled out for 69.
