Division One
Cresselly have knocked Lawrenny off their joint perch at the top of the table after the two teams meet at Lawrenny in the Division One match of the day. Cresselly now lead the table with 156 points followed by Carew with 145 points, Lawrenny with 141 points, St. Ishmaels with 137 points and Haverfordwest with 135 points. Ryan Lewis gave the Cresselly innings a late boost with an attacking knock of 73 which included three sixes and six fours as the visitors notched up a total of 213 for eight. He perished in the last over when he was bowled by Robert Williams but earlier the Cresselly all rounder had been dropped three times. Left hander Simon Cole stroked 38 with one six and six fours and opening batsman Julian Arthur found the boundary four times in his innings of 24. Lawrenny were unable to keep up with the required run rate without losing wickets at the same time. Middle order batsmen Ian Jenkins battled for 30 overs in his innings of 23 not out and Christian Phillips scored 32 with four fours. The pair added 42 for the fifth wicket. Earlier opener Andrew Cole scored 14 but the innings closed with Lawrenny on 128 for seven. For Cresselly Stefan Jenkins took three for 27 and spinner Ryan Lewis two for ten in his seven overs. Whitland reached a total of 172 for six away to Neyland despite losing skipper Paul Webb off the first ball of the day when he was bowled by Henry Durant. A second wicket partnership of 78 between Paul Davies and Matthew Davies restored the balance with Paul Davies scoring 50 with nine fours before being bowled by spinner Phil Davies. Matthew Davies went on the score 35 supported by Raff Williams with 31, Kevin Pearce with 22 and Owain Davies with 18. Neyland held out for a draw on a total of 150 for nine with Phil Davies and Gary Lloyd batting out the last four overs. Paul Murray scored 30 before giving a return catch to Paul Webb, skipper Andrew Miller supported with 24 and Phil Davies was 23 not out at the end. For the Whitland team Matthew Davies took three for 13, Mark Lee two for 32 and Iestyn Scourfield two for 15. Pembroke travelled to St. Ishmaels and totalled 169 for seven. Barry Evans held the innings together as he has done so often in his knock of 65 supported by Rob Weston with 19, Phil Stephens and Dan Williams with 16 each, Will Davies with 13 and Phil Hay with 12. For Tish, James Salter took two for 31 and Stewart Kimpton two for 41. St Ishmaels had a comfortable six wickets win with overs to spare following a third wicket partnership with 86 between skipper Peter Bradshaw and Jonathan Pawlett. Bradshaw who is in fine nick this season scored 70 with one six and nine fours before being bowled by Leigh Jenkins. Pawlett reached 48 before being trapped leg before wicket by Chris Thomas having hit eight fours and one six. Andrew Williams also chipped in with 39 not out. Anthony John took two for 36 for the visitors. Haverfordwest won by ten wickets away to Burton who were bowled out for 115. James Venables scored 42 before being caught by Karl Rhead off the bowling of Nick Dyer and received some support from his brother Jonathan with 16 and Dean Murphy with 15. Spinner Nick Dyer took five for 15 in ten accurate overs with support from Simon Williams who made a welcome return to the team with two for 33 and Phil Kirkby two for 29. Haverfordwest raced to a winning total of 116 without loss after 18 overs. Danny Potter scored 67 not out from 52 balls with 13 fours and Richard James was 39 not out with eight fours. Darren Thomas and Wayne Cannon made early inroads into the Narberth batting line-up at Carew and the visitors were soon in trouble at 13 for three. However young middle order batsman Kyle Quartermaine dropped anchor to score 35 from 75 deliveries supported in the middle order by David Johns with 13 and Aron Keane with 11. The lower order also contributed with all rounder Ollie Cook scoring 35 before being bowled by Rhys Davies, Ben Hughes reached 19 and Matthew Johns was 12 not out batting at number 11 as the visitors scored 154 for nine. For Carew skipper Robert Scourfield took three for 26 and Darren Thomas two for 20. Young leg spinner Ceri Brace made his first team league debut and took one for 34 in 12 overs and created quite an impression with his bowling. Wayne Cannon and Rhys Davies collected the other wickets to fall. Carew were given an excellent start by opening pair Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield who had a first wicket partnership of 99. It was broken when Sefton was bowled by Kyle Quartermaine for 55 from 60 balls but Nick Scourfield went on to score 59 with seven fours. After two wickets fell quickly Brian Hall with 24 not out guided Carew home to reach 157 for three in a seven wickets win. Kyle Quartermaine took two for 39 for Narberth and Ben Hughes bowled economically to finish with one for 31 from ten overs. Division Two
Carew Seconds appear to be recovering from their poor start this season and defeated Saundersfoot by eight wickets after dismissing the home team for 124. For Saundersfoot, Paul Mansbridge scored 27, Steve Cole 22, James Cane 16 and Danny Cane 15. Nick Cope, David Rees, Tom Davies and spinner John Canton each picked up two wickets for the visitors. Carew openers Gerald Hicks and Tom Davies gave the visitors a reasonable start in their individual innings of 16 and 28 respectively. The momentum was maintained as Nick Cope scored 42 not out with five fours and Ben Evans 30 not out with four fours as Carew cruised to a total of 126 for two. Four Lamphey batsmen scored 20 or more in the team's home match against Hook but none of the batsmen went on to register a big score. All rounders Jason Oatley and Grant Cole scored 28 and 27 not out respectively, skipper Hywel Gibbs scored 26 and Lewis Haines 25 in the team total of 135 for nine. Andrew Thomas took three for 25 for Hook and the versatile Jamie Phelps took three for 47. Phelps was the Hook hero with a splendid innings of 91 not out as he dominated his team's winning total of 136 for three. Phelps struck 14 fours in his innings and hit spinner Paul White over long on to win the match with a six. Hywel Gibbs took two for 46 for Lamphey. In other division two matches the leaders Llangwm rattled up a total of 275 all out away to Llanrhian who held on for a draw at 207 for six. Stackpole were dismissed for 149 at home to Fishguard who won by six wickets and second placed Haverfordwest Seconds defeated Llechryd by six wickets after restricting the visitors to a total of 167 for six.
Division Three
A depleted Narberth Seconds team were no match for the division three leaders Herbrandston who won by eight wickets after bowling out Narberth Seconds for 45. Paul Hood was in devastating form as he took seven for 18 and Gary Hughes the Narberth skipper was the only player in double figures with 13. The visitors wasted little time in reaching 47 for two with Nathan Banner 23 not out and Allan McClelland 21. Whitland Seconds had the better of a drawn encounter at home to Neyland Seconds who reached 90 for eight in reply to a Whitland total of 165 for three. James "Cub" Davies scored 54 and student Edward John 33 not out for Whitland Seconds after openers Peter Wright and Jonathon Thomas had contributed 27 and 23 respectively. Sixteen year old Jonathon Thomas threatened to run through the Neyland team and he took six for 11 in ten overs. However Gareth Virgo resisted with 34, Nicholas Kooman chipped in with 16 and youngster Ashley Sutton helped to salvage draw for his team with ten not out. Johnston scored 137 for nine away to Hundleton. Richard James top scored with 27 and Nigel Arthur took three for 22 for the Hundleton team. Excellent bowling by Rick Lawrence with a five for seven spell resulted in Johnston winning by 45 runs despite the efforts of Jonathan Williams with 28. Third placed Cresselly Seconds managed to cling on for a draw at home to Kilgetty in a local derby. The visitors scored 193 for seven with the evergreen Graham Jenkins on92 not out from 87 deliveries an innings which included 11 fours and one six. He featured in a fourth wicket partnership of 72 with Anthony Bevan who scored 28 and a third wicket partnership of 61 with opener Jake Marsh as the youngster grafted for 31 runs. For Cresselly skipper Richard Arthur took three for 57 and Sion Jenkins three for 46. When the match ended Cresselly Seconds were 176 for nine. Damian Arthur and all rounder Nick Davies were the mainstays of the Cresselly batting line up. Davies scored 52 before being bowled by Jamie Morgan and Arthur scored 42 with five fours before he was caught by Richard Prout off the bowling of Alan Townsend. Richard Prout opened the bowling and took three for 42 with Jamie Morgan taking two for 11.
Division Four
St Florence made the trek north to Maenclochog where the Hog emerged the victors by six wickets in a low scoring match between two of the teams at the bottom of the league. Put in on a difficult pitch, none of the St Florence batsmen could come to terms with the conditions, and the accurate Maenclochog attack. The Saints were bundled out for just 26 runs; no batsman making double figures. Rob Nicholas was the most successful bowler for the Hog with seven for 14 from eight overs. Maenclochog started confidently in reply but were soon in trouble as Geraint Lewis found great pace and accuracy to remove three Maenclochog batsmen for just eight runs in five overs. Had some close LBW decisions gone his way the match might have been a bit tighter but as it was Maenclochog only lost one other wicket to Richard Jones in reaching their winning target. Dafydd Jones top scored for the visitors and hit one six and one four in his brief innings of 12. Pembroke Dock maintained the pressure on division four leaders St Ishmaels Seconds after totalling 193 for nine at home to Haverfordwest Thirds and restricting the visitors to a total of 124 for five. Julian Edwards scored 55 for the Dock backed up by all rounder John Davies with 38, James White with 25 not out and skipper Peter Kingdom with 20. James Marchant took five for 51 for the Haverfordwest team supported by Simon Tremaine with two for 30. Neil Hallett and Jason Coles each picked up two wickets for the Dock but solid batting by John Tooze with 21, opener Mark White with 20 and a fighting innings of 26 not out by Colin Slater resulted in the match being drawn. Manorbier were somewhat surprisingly bowled out for 77 at home to Crymych. Phil Kidney scored 17 for the Manorbier team but most of his colleagues found difficulty in dealing with the bowling of Nitai Durey with four for 13, Murray Briggs with three for 19. In reply Crymych raced to a ten wickets win after just 13 overs. Former Narberth rugby centre Elgan Vittle was in attacking mode with an innings of 51 not out including two sixes in the first over supplemented by seven fours later on. His opening partner Rhydian Wyn was 23 not out as the visitors reached 80 without loss. Division four leaders St Ishmaels Seconds built up a large total of 183 in their away match against Pembroke Seconds. Philip Cockburn scored 67 with ten fours and Martin Cheshire backed up with 25 with the experienced Glyn Griffiths 41 not out at the end of the innings. Andrew Price claimed two of the victims for Pembroke Seconds who were bowled out for 54. All rounder Kevin Jenkins fought to the end with his innings of 29 supported by Damian Hulbert with 14. Robbie Thomas took five for 23 for the visitors and Phillip Cockburn two for 11. Like many teams Pembroke Seconds struggled to get 11 players over the Bank Holiday and it was difficult to plug gaps when the Tish team were batting so well. Ian Gow scored 46 and Mathew Kiff 27 not out in a Llangwm Thirds total of 171 for eight at home to Lawrenny Seconds. Lawrenny skipper John Fuller took three for nine and Brad Jenkins four for 60. The experienced David Jones made sure that the visitors held on for a draw at 123 for eight with his innings of 30 not out and he had excellent support from fifteen year old Jamie Lewis who scored 23 and Barry Phillips with 22. For the Llangwm team Jeremy Brock took three for 24, Mathew Kiff two for 34 and Mathew Hughes three for 30.
Division Five
Whitland Thirds had a nine wickets win at home to Llanrhian Seconds after dismissing the visitors for 32. No batsman achieved double figures but there were 14 extras. Mathew Webb took four for six, Carl Smith three for four and Alex Pickersgill two for five. Aled Davies was 19 not out in the Whitland total of 34 for one. Lamphey Seconds were bowled out for 69 away to Johnston Seconds despite the efforts of skipper Andrew Skeels with 29. Nathan James took five for 24 and Andrew Page three for 21. Johnston Seconds won by six wickets with Bob Nelson top scoring on 25. Narberth Thirds were away to Burton Thirds and enjoyed batting on the postage stamp ground. Chris Richards scored 42, Richard Bevan 35 and young left hander Brinley Toms 36, an innings which included two huge sixes. In reply to the Narberth Thirds total of 193 for seven Burton Thirds recovered from being 40 for seven to reach 119 for eight. Martin Phillips spearheaded the rescue mission in his innings of 39. Experienced seamer John Owen took seven for 12 for the visitors. Herbrandston Seconds reached a total of 120 for nine at home to Carew Thirds. Peter Llewellyn was the mainstay of the batting line up with his excellent innings of 47 not out and then he took five for 21 supported by Dean John with two for 32 as the visitors were restricted to 108 for eight in reply. For the Carew team, opener Ieuan Davies scored 33 not out, Martin Whitfield scored 17 and Curtis Hurlow had a useful knock of 13. Division Six (a)
Hundleton Seconds were dismissed for 126 in their away match against Hook Seconds as Jack Britton took four for 14. Craig Williams scored 24 and Carl John 22 for the Hundleton team. Good batting by Nigel Badham with 46 and wicket keeper William Gronwy with 40 not out resulted in the Hook team winning by seven wickets. Chris Hawkes had a splendid innings of 101 with 16 fours for Saundersfoot Seconds in their away match at Crymych. He was supported by Paul Morris with 21 and Dan Brace with 14. Clive Davies took two for 19 and David Sayer two for 27 for Crymych Seconds who were bowled out for 84 in reply. Opener Gwyndaf Rees delayed the inevitable as he carried his bat for 33 and Dyfed Sion scored 14. The only other score of note came from 24 extras. Chris Parker demolished the Crymych innings in his five for 16 spell. The five wickets included a hat trick and then two wickets in successive balls. His son Yannick also got into the act and took three for 22.
Division Six (b)
Kilgetty Seconds scored 200 for eight at home to near neighbours Cresselly Thirds. Skipper Richard Gwyther opened the innings and scored 62 with two sixes and nine fours. He was supported by Mike Beynon with 36, Robbie Beynon with 30 and Duane Rossiter with 26. Young left arm speed merchant Jack Murphy who joined Cresselly from Kilgetty this season took five for 21. Murphy opened the Cresselly innings and scored 17 and Ross Grieve scored 28. However, penetrative bowling by the Kilgetty team resulted in the visitors being dismissed for 94 as Gareth Gwyther seized a rare opportunity to bowl. The captain's brother took four for two and was backed up by Duane Rossiter with two for 15 and Robbie Beynon with two for 38. Pembroke Dock Seconds found life difficult at the Old Racecourse in Haverfordwest and were bowled out for 30. Paul Jenkins took five for six and Jamie Morris two for 15. The match was soon over as Haverfordwest Fourths won by ten wickets.
