Division One
Narberth's home match against Pembroke in Division One of the Imperial Garages Pembroke County Cricket League was over before the tea interval after the visitors had been dismissed for 27. No Pembroke batsmen reached double figures as Ollie Cook was in devastating form in a ten overs spell during which he took seven wickets for just nine runs. Ian Hughes was also accuracy its self at the other end as he took one for nine in seven overs and Mathew Johns bowled the stubborn Hugh Davies who batted for a longer period than any other visiting batsmen and also bowled Anton John to finish off the Pembroke innings. Johns ended with figures of two for one. It appeared that the Narberth batsmen were in too much of a hurry to end the game and two wickets fell quickly as Joe Allen was caught by Hugh Davies off the bowling of Danny Williams for nought and Daniel Hughes was leg before wicket to Williams for four. Opener Thomas Richards remained firm at one end but another wicket fell when David Johns was caught on the boundary by Pembroke skipper Mathew Mitchell off the bowling of Richards for four, in search of an extra bonus point. At 122 for one from 31 overs St. Ishmaels were well placed to build up a large total. However after the opening partnership was split up wickets started to fall. Jonathan Pawlett had a quick fire innings of 20, young left-hander Philip Cockburn scored 18 but wickets fell at regular intervals so that the Tish innings was closed on 160 for nine. Skipper Robert Matthias scored 23, Grant Cole 21 and Wayne Shanklin 18 and there was a late flurry at the end when Gareth Nicholas scored 24 with one six and four fours before falling leg before wicket to the experienced Micky Phillips who finished with figures of three for 23. Dean Flood bowled 12 accurate overs and destroyed the Lamphey innings with his five for 24 return and teenager Julian James took two for 27. Unless Lamphey can raise their game during the remaining matches of the season they looked doomed to be relegated on this form and will play in Division Three next season. As a result of their win, Haverfordwest Seconds had held on to their second place in the table and if they remain in the top two positions it will mean that only one team will be relegated from Division One at the end of the season which at present means that Pembroke would be safe. In other Division Two matches, the game between Johnston and Stackpole ended in a draw with Johnston holding out at 195 for nine in reply to a Stackpole total of 232 for six. League leaders Burton had a four wickets win at Herbrandston after Herbrandston were dismissed for 146.
