Division One
Carew had a comfortable six wickets win at Cresselly in the Division One match of the day and have leapfrogged over their arch rivals into second place in the table. Cresselly reached a total of 193 for nine. Opener Andrew Harris scored 19, Simon Cole 52 before being run out, Phil Williams an attacking innings of 42 with seven fours before being leg before wicket to Aled Davies, Adam Chandler 21 and Richard Harris 20 not out. Spinner John Canton took four for 41 and experienced all rounder Aled Davies two for 25. The third wicket partnership of 100 between Nick Scourfield and Robert Hicks put the visitors in the driving seat. Scourfield was eventually caught by Huw Neale off the bowling of spinner Ryan Lewis for 50 but Hicks was undefeated with 63 not out at the end of an accomplished innings during which he hit ten fours. Simon Wood had a brisk innings of 33 and Tim Hicks scored 19. Cresselly spinner Ryan Lewis took three for 30 in his 12 overs and all of the batsmen treated him with respect. Division One leaders Haverfordwest built up a huge total of 252 for two in their away match at Neyland. Left-hander Phil Kirkby had his best innings of the season and hit seven sixes and 14 fours in scoring 127 not out. He featured in a second wicket partnership of 94 with Danny Potter who scored 59 with one six and ten fours. On the departure of Potter, David Davies joined Kirkby at the crease and finished with 56 not out. The Neyland batsmen did not find run scoring so easy after the tea interval and they were bowled out for 114. Six of the wickets fell to the off spin bowlers as Nick Dyer finished with four for 32 and Clive Tucker two for 32. In addition, Kirkby followed up his exploits with a bat to take two for 11. Jay Dunsford top scored for Neyland with 31 supported by skipper Andrew Miller with 24 and John Jones with 21. Cricket followers throughout the County will be delighted to hear that Huw Scriven was back in action for Haverfordwest behind the stumps. The Neyland batsmen would not have been so pleased however as Scriven had a hand in five dismissals as he took four catches and had one stumping! Lawrenny have moved into fourth position in the table following their nine wickets win at Hook. Consistent bowling by the visitors resulted in Hook being bowled out for 159. Openers Keith James and Jamie Phelps scored 57 and 30 respectively and gave the home team a decent start with a first wicket partnership of 45. The only other contribution of note came from Mathew Holder with 21. Robert Williams took three for 28, Simon Cole three for 40 and James Buckle three for 48. An opening partnership of 122 between Andrew Cole senior and Simon Cole put Lawrenny in an impregnable position. Andrew Cole was bowled by Mathew Rowlands for 58 after hitting ten fours but Simon Cole was undefeated with a splendid 94. He produced a dazzling array of shots and hit 16 fours as well as one six, in the Lawrenny total of 160 for one. Narberth salvaged a draw at St. Ishmaels after the Tish batsmen had scored 220 for two. A second wicket partnership of 129 formed the backbone of the Tish total. It ended when Peter Bradshaw was bowled by Ian Hughes for 49 but Jonathan Pawlett went on to score 110 not out including four sixes and ten fours. Andy Palmer was with him at the end with 22 not out and Andrew Williams scored 16 in a first wicket stand of 34 with Peter Bradshaw before being bowled by Ben Hughes for 16. The visitors were never quite up with the run rate. Joe Allen was stumped by Peter Bradshaw off the bowling of Daniel Flynn for 11, skipper Marc Hughes scored 22 and Richard Adams was another to be stumped by Peter Bradshaw off the bowling of Daniel Flynn after scoring 14. The lower middle order Narberth batsmen each got in but got out before scoring 50. Thomas Richards scored 29, David Johns 35 and Ian Hughes 32 before the visitors put up the shutters to finish on 175 for nine. Jonathan Pawlett took three for 31, spinner Daniel Flynn three for 30 and Andy Palmer two for 43. Talented left-hander Edward John scored his first century in Division One for Whitland at home to Pembroke. The Cardiff student scored 104 not out with three sixes and nine fours and scored just over half of his team's total of 207 for five. Earlier David Lee scored 38 and Colin John joined his son in a sixth wicket partnership, which produced 58 in six overs. Colin John finished with 18 not out. For the Pembroke team all rounder Kevin Jenkins took three for 36 and Anton John two for 43. Left-hander Barry Evans saved the day for Pembroke with his undefeated knock of 80, which included nine fours. The visitors finished on 171 for eight and were in contention before losing some wickets in the closing overs. Skipper Mathew Mitchell scored 26, Kevin Jenkins 23 and big hitting Daniel Scourfield 11 before being run out. For Whitland leg spinner Meyrick Rowlands took four for 42 and off spinner Paul Webb two for 25.
Division Two
Division two leaders Burton had been unbeaten all of this season until Saturday when they went down to a surprise defeat away to Carew Seconds. The visitors were bowled out for 137. Five batsmen had double figures but lost their wickets before reaching 30. Mike Venables top scored on 29 supported by David Murphy with 21, Richard Scriven with 17, John Griffiths with 16 and Gareth Virgo with ten. Rhys Davies opened the bowling for Carew together with Scott Helmich. The two young players did well with Davies taking three for 20 and Helmich one for 20. Mathew Phillips had a lively spell of three for 40 and Nick Cope took two for 47. A second wicket partnership of 76 between Martin Scourfield and Rhys Davies paved the way for Carew Seconds to reach 138 for three and to win by seven wickets. Scourfield batted throughout the innings for 65 not out with six fours and one six, Davies scored 43 and Helmich 20 not out. A sixth wicket partnership of 132 between Alan Webster and Anthony Canton enabled Stackpole to total 201 for eight at Saundersfoot. Webster scored 60 with three sixes and four fours before being bowled by Chris Parker but Anthony Canton was 93 not out an innings which included three sixes and 13 fours. For Saundersfoot Danny Caine took three for 38, skipper Chris Parker three for 55 and Kevin Sykes two for 28. Saundersfoot were on the rocks at 15 for four but secured a draw after a fifth wicket partnership of 91 between Steve Cook and James Caine. This season Caine's batting has improved enormously and he scored 75 with nine fours and one six before being bowled by Alan Webster. Steve Cook had a solid innings of 35 and Ian Poole chipped in with 19. Richard MacKay took six for 38 and Alan Webster two for 39. Lamphey batted throughout the order to reach a total of 186 for eight at Johnston. Openers Robert Matthias and Wayne Shanklin both scored 22, Jason Oatley 31 from 20 deliveries but number eight Peter McGilloway played the innings of the afternoon in scoring 42. Other batsmen in double figures were Hywel Gibbs with 16 and Gareth Nicholas with 12. Gary Stephens and John Summons gave Johnston an excellent start after the tea interval with an opening partnership of 98. It was broken when Stephens fell to return a catch by Andrew Skeels for 30. Summons went on to score 84 before being trapped leg before wicket in the last over by Hywel Gibbs but it did not prevent Johnston from winnings by five wickets. Left-hander Chris Fitzpatrick scored 23 and Gary James was undefeated at the end with 17. Skeels finished with figures of four for 51. In other Division Two matches Haverfordwest Seconds scored 187 for seven but the visitors Herbrandston won by nine wickets. Llangwm travelled to Llanrhian and enjoyed the batting conditions to scored 262 for seven. In reply Llanrhian were bowled out for 129.
Division Three
Manorbier had an excellent three wickets win in their away against Burton Seconds after chasing a home team total of 209 for three. Burton elected to bat and had a fine start through Richard Hayman who scored 30 and James Scale. The Oatfield Park track made the Manorbier bowlers toil, although both Neil Powling and Jeremy Smith bowled accurately. James Scale was undefeated at the end of the innings with 102 and had support from Robert Griffiths with 33 not out and Andrew Cromwell with 29. Paul Oeppen took two for 42 for the visitors. In response Manorbier had a very slow start as Burton's bowlers James Dickson and Joe Scale kept things tight at the start. Steve Flook decided to step on the accelerator and moved quickly to 37 with six boundaries. Johnathan Hughes with 34 and Paul Oeppen with 18 then give good support to Jeremy Smith who started his innings with two successive boundaries. With a further 11 fours and two sweetly struck sixes the Manorbier maestro moved swiftly to 96 not out to secure a good win over a committed Burton side. Burton skipper Dean Hayes had a tight spell with two for 29 in 11 overs before his final over was despatched for 16 runs! Manorbier reached the winning target in the final over. Whitland Seconds have moved back into second position with a three wickets win at Fishguard who were bowled out for 90. Openers David Haynes and Shaun O'Connor scored 16 and 14 respectively backed up later by Stephen Meaney with 15 and Alan Proud with 11. Shaun Lynch took five for 18 and Daniel Newton two for 16 for the visitors. Teenage opener Jonathan Thomas scored 22 when the visitors replied but Whitland Seconds were made to work hard for their eventual three wickets win. Shaun Lynch scored 15, Nick Davies 13 and Carl Stevenson 12 as the visitors reached 91 for seven. For Fishguard Rob Kemp took three for 25 and Ben Watson three for 31. Hundleton had an excellent nine wickets win at home to Llechryd who totalled 170 for five. Oliver Roberts scored 82 not out with 11 fours for the visitors supported by skipper Steve Smith who scored 33 and teenager Richard O'Connell scored 23. Johnathan Williams took two for 44 for Hundleton. When Hundleton responded, Mark Williams scored 58 with 11 fours and one six and Stephen Williams 40 as the home team reached 173 for one. In the mid table battle at Narberth the visitors Maenclochog were bowled out for a disappointing total of 69 with none of the batsmen apart from Rhys Davies reaching double figures. Davies had a fighting knock of 25 not out as Ben Quartermaine took five for 17, off spinner Nick Evans two for 25, leg spinner Greg Morris two for 13 and skipper Gary Hughes one for nine. In reply Narberth Seconds were in trouble at eight to three. The damage was done by Kevin Davies who took two for one before being taken ill in his third over and forced to leave the field to take no further part in the match. Without Davies the Maenclochog bowling attack lacked some bite on the day. Ceri Davies attacked the bowling to score 42 not out with seven fours and Kyle Quartermaine helped him along at the other end by scoring 21 not out.
Division Four
Division Four leaders Cresselly Seconds had an easy win away to Pembroke Seconds after dismissing the home team for 48. Pembroke skipper Simon Smith Wrench scored 20 before being run out and there were 18 extras but no other batsmen reached double figures. It was a good all round performance by the Cresselly bowling attack as Sion Jenkins took three for 16, skipper Richard Arthur two for 12 and Mark Harris two for 13. In reply Cresselly Seconds cruised to a ten wickets win with Sion Jenkins 34 not out including eight fours and Damian Arthur 13 not out. Kilgetty held on to their second position in the table with a hard worked five wickets win away to Lawrenny Seconds who were bowled out for 138. Lawrenny opener Steve Campbell carried his bat with 68 not out and he featured in a sixth wicket partnership of 59 with Willie Morris who scored 37. The partnership was broken when Morris was caught by Simon Evans off the bowling of Richard Prout who finished with four for 38. Anthony Bevan and Brian Slate both provided the required support and both took two for 27. It was a good team effort by the Kilgetty batsmen to reach 144 for five. Jamie Morgan scored 48 with five fours and three sixes, skipper Graham Jenkins 41 before Richard Prout and Anthony Bevan took over with their respective knocks of 31 and 12. Stephen Rees took two for 47 for the Lawrenny team and there was a wicket each for Owen Williams, Willie Morris and Alan Colluns. Pembroke Dock are just one point behind Kilgetty in the table after their six wickets win at home to St. Ishmaels who were bowled out for 114. For the visitors Tom Richards scored 43, Mark Davies 28 and Martin Cheshire 13. Jason Coles took three for 28 for the Dock, Nick Daley took three for 29 and Steve Alford two for nine. All rounder John Davies scored 43 not out with nine fours in the Dock total of 115 for four. Backup was provided by Peter Jones with 18 and Julian Edwards 16. For the visitors Paul Palmer took two for 18. Lamphey Seconds scored 161 for nine at home to Burton Thirds. Jonathan Matthias was 49 not out, Haydn Cole had a hard-hitting innings of 41 and Aamir Shahzad scored 22. Mathew Johns took three for six for the visitors who won by four wickets on reaching 162 for six. Ian Woods top scored with 36 supported by Luke Hayman with 28 and John Cromwell with 25. Graham Purser took two for 27 for Lamphey Seconds.
Division Five
St. Florence remain second in Division Five following a four wickets win at home to Hook Seconds in a low scoring match. The visitors were bundled out for 48 and Phil Griffiths was the only batsman in double figures with 11. Geraint Lewis took five for 28 and Tommy Roberts four for 18. St. Florence also found it difficult to score runs and to keep their wickets intact and Peter Hall was the only St. Florence player in double figures with ten. However the Saints did get to 49 for six despite the efforts of teenager Brennan Martin who took three for 18. Carew Thirds had an away fixture against Stackpole Seconds where young Josh Davies batted extremely well to score 106 not out in a total of 201 for four. He had support from Mathew Jackson who scored 23 and Martin Alderman who scored 21. Leg spinner Ceri Brace took three for 68. After the tea interval Carew Thirds found the Stackpole bowlers on top as Phil Tallett took three for five, David Hunter two for eight and Mathew Jackson two for 14. The visitors were bowled out for 69. Tom Davies top scored with 17 backed up by Huw Evans with 11. Whitland Thirds were due to be home to Camrose and Spittal Seconds but the visitors were unable to raise a team as so many of the Camrose and Spittal players wanted to watch England in action in the Football World Cup. Although Whitland are entitled to claim maximum points the Whitland players would have preferred to have a game of cricket.
Division Six
Kilgetty Seconds reached a total of 159 for nine at home to Narberth Thirds in the division Six local derby. There was some consistent batting with Richard Gwyther scoring 36, skipper Kevin Davies 28 not out, wicket keeper Josh Bevan 28 and Mike Beynon 25. For the visitors Richard Evans took three for 30, Mathew Davies three for 45 and Richard Bevan two for 33. John Owen did not take a wicket but only conceded 12 runs in his nine overs. Neil Rossiter has been in excellent form for the Narberth Thirds team this season and Saturday was no exception. His innings of 85 not out included two sixes and 15 fours, Chris Richards had a solid knock of 24 before being bowled by Duane Rossiter, Mathew Davies scored 30 before being bowled by Grant James and skipper Huw Simpkins was there at the end with 16 not out as the visitors won by seven wickets. Llanrhian Thirds built up a large total of 211 for nine at home to Hundleton Seconds. Geraint Morris scored 86 not out and Tom Hamilton 48. Anthony John posed all sorts of problems for the Llanrhian batsmen and took seven for nine as the visitors were bowled out for 58. Luke Williams was the only batsman in double figures with 12. Pembroke Dock Seconds were bowled out for 88 away to Stackpole Thirds as Tony McTaggert took three for six and Wayne Marshall three for 21. Stackpole Thirds also found run scoring a bit of a lottery but a fine innings of 27 not out by Clive Rowlands steered the home team to a three wickets win.
